This is one of those bands like Weezer where I can really corner myself into a space where I don't listen to anything but their music. Hasn't happened in a while. But these songs are reminding me why. A song called "Chloroform" is playing right now and it has like a million golden hooks. This band shits 'em out left and right.

Anyone know if there's a better quality rip yet? The "obviously an inferior quality early leak" sound has limited appeal for me, personally.

having a bit of a love affair with the song "Bankrupt!" today

their wonky and stupid multi-part suite songs just warm my heart

I'm not sure why this exists, but it's pretty good. It's a full-on cover, not a remix.

Streamed it on iTunes, so I dunno individual song titles, but I recall enjoying some of the mid/late album burners. That first single does nothing for me; production is so obnoxiously in the red. This version is way better:

phenomenal album, it went up on Spotify today with the "71 Sketches from the Bankrupt! Sessions" as a single 64-minute track. sounds fantastic. also has a companion "Commentary Album" where you get French dudes trying to explain the origin of these songs in 45 seconds.

my AOTY, but i guess i can see why people don't dig the loudness war/technicolor clusterfuck production.

Maybe it's because I'm happy to be chair dancing to any music after what happened 21 hours ago, but that was fucking great.

i don't necessarily disagree about the "porridge" comment in that all the textures are pretty smooth and blend and fade into each other real well. i would just challenge that idea that it's intrinsically wrong that you can't distinguish each instrumental track on the record (and who knows what or how many instruments they even used?).

the production on Phoenix albums has been criticized every time they have a new release which makes this frequent line of "disappointment" all the less weighty. and the fact that Bankrupt! is closer is sound and feel to Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix than Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is to It's Never Been Like That furthers my confusion. guess people are over Yacht Rock.
