What are you pissed about? The fans being mad about him not being on the court or the misogynistic way that they are expressing their anger?

I'm going to Tweet my question to Brandon Stousy. He will either answer honestly or give me some "fuck you Pitchfork is independent!" response.

Can't remember the last time something on the internet pissed me off this much:
Read the comments, hate everybody. Rinse and repeat. By no means a new development, just particularly enraging at the moment.

Imagine being someone who goes through life being mad about the fact that Walmart and Target have dropped Paula Deen.

I think it's fair to expect retailers not to sell art expressing a bigoted viewpoint if they're going to kick Paula Deen to the curb. I also don't give a shit.

so you don't think there's a substantial difference between a paid spokesperson for a company and the physical product they sell in the stores?
seems kinda crazy to hold your merchandise to the same standards as your employees

I think it's probably worse to directly support bigoted art than to buy products created or endorsed by someone with bigoted opinions. But I don't really want to support either. Mostly I'm disgusted by an obese diabetic getting rich peddling aggressively unhealthy food to a nation of obese diabetics.jasperness wrote:so you don't think there's a substantial difference between a paid spokesperson for a company and the physical product they sell in the stores?

NY Times article about fans supporing Deen.
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/23/us/in-the-south-many-are-willing-to-forgive-deens-racial-misstep.html?pagewanted=all
I didn't read it, but I like that most of them are morbidly obese.

Sorta just figured Paula Deen is rich and famous for portraying a family friendly image to slap on the side of butter products whereas a large percentage of musical artists put out records whose sales have nothing to do with family friendly image stuff. Apples and oranges and racist bullshit is all.

fair point. from a public relations standpoint i think that a sponsorship is seen as more of an endorsement of her character than stocking music from an artist who expresses bigoted views is seen as an endorsement of their opinion.
you're right about another thing in that i've spent more words talking about the subject than fucks i actually give. culture, lol.

In the line Saturday, some pointed out that some African-Americans regularly used the word Ms. Deen had admitted to saying.
"I don't understand why some people can use it and others can't," said Rebecca Beckerwerth, 55, a North Carolina native who lives in Arizona and had made reservations at the restaurant Friday.

Yancy, you cut out the critical part of the story!
Arizona is where Southerners, hicks, racists and bigots in full on delusion mode go to retire and play out their utopian freedom-loving (for white people) fantasy in an unbearable desert. it's like a modern day wild west and part of the reason is because so many people that are willing to migrate to that horrible climate are hicks with no money.
