Attacking the discography was impossible before I became a saavy man of the internet (well....  probably still not fully there, but I have at least discovered soulseek over a decade late). But it's easier now. I listened to This Nation's Saving Grace like ten million times and it's one of my all time fave albums. But every time I went to best buy or even "real" music stores, I could never find Fall albums to get. I'd always be pissed that people cared about "fall out boy," but that I couldn't track down Hex Enduction Hour.

So I mostly wrote them off as some band whose massive output precluded me actually understanding them fully. Still, I did end up finding and listening to Hex Induction Hour and Grotesque and the amazingly titled greatest hits album and...   maybe that was it. Then I started boarding hard and Imperial Wax Solvent and The Unutterable became things that people talked about...   and they were great things! But still....   that intimidating discography.

Really...   probably the ONLY artist who I have long considered a personal favorite, based on a couple albums, whose work I basically haven't HEARD.

Right now I'm listening to Perverted Language and Wings is playing. And it is wonderful. And all the songs that preceded it were wonderful. And I wish I were still 14 so that I'd seek out the lyrics and read them intensely while listening. I might start doing this, but not right at the moment.

    Grotesque

Honestly, never really listened to any of their albums extensively. This one is pretty good though. Punky, druggy

I can't pick out a single favorite track or a single moment where I first heard them or realized how great they were.

Really wanted to get into them the old fashioned way but at the time I was unable to find anyone who would exchange a copy of their recordings for money.

Then I just kind of took them for grated for a long time like I do with most good bands.

I went searching for the long YouTube’s thread cause this Waits documentary is pretty enjoyable and also I wanted somebody to recommend more music docs available on YouTube:
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6c0vx9

Didn’t find it though, so posting it here because this band’s catalogue is still too big for me and if somebody posts a non- This Nation’s Saving Grace album I’ll listen to it like 2 or 3 times tomorrow.

My favourite is either Grotesque (After the Gramme) or Hex Enduction Hour, but sometimes I think it may actually be Dragnet. They never stopped being good, and part of why their discography is so daunting is that every album is a banger, but those are the three I'm recommending

I think they got better and better as time went on possibly peaking in the late 80s to mid 90s. I've been jamming Bend Sinister/ Domesday Triad lately.  The Light User Syndrome is another favorite from this approximate era.
I dont believe they ever got around to sucking, and I've liked allthe 21st century records I've heard.

The final Fall lineup has carried on under the name Imperial Wax.  They're good and while doing old school post punk stuff  not like a Fall tribute band or anything.

I think my favorite might be the difficult to find, Levitate!

Bend Sinister and Perverted by Language are my two faves, but everything is great. Really dig The Real New Fall LP (formerly 'Country on the Click') and Fall Heads Roll from the later years. If you can find it, the best Fall release, imo, is the The Complete Peel Sessions.

The singles are stunning too - How I Wrote Elastic Man, The Man Whose Head Expanded, There's a Ghost in My House, Hit the North. Fuuuuuck. Top 5 band, easy.
