If I was running ISIS / Daesh, I would send my people to shoot up an abortion clinic next, and finish off this stupid fucking country once and for all.

Don't remember ever feeling this depressed about politics, international, federal, state, or municipal, all at the same time.

I agree, duff. It is to the point where I am just inflicting pain on myself by clicking comments sections of articles or reading responses to a Tweet that suggests Trump is bad.
He's definitely let the worst people in the country out of a box and I don't think it is dramatic to suggest this could just be the start.

Re: Radical Islamic Terrorism
Totally the right thread. 50 dead. Shooter's name is Malik or something.
Gay bar.
I wonder how many news stories mention this, and what the right wing reaction is/would be to that fact.
Without checking, prediction:
They deserved to die!
Unless the guys with the guns were from that other religion, then it was TERRORISM.

Getting really fucking sick of these people dwelling on whether or not leaders R using the "Islamic," buzzword. Claiming some sort of "politically incorrect" superiority or fucking whatever. Anybody who doesn't agree with everything Obama said in that speech is an asshole, plain and simple.

Re: Radical Islamic Terrorism
the obsession on the right with using the term "Islamic terrorism" is wrong headed and totally Islamophobic. the need to describe this phenomenon in the broadest language possible as "Islamic" can only be described as Islamophobic--what else does it hope to achieve but tagging the entire faith with the stain of political violence? i'm certainly critical of Islamic scripture and the traditionalism in Muslim societies, but radical violence is not central to the religion. it's definitely too common and a major issue 4 Islamic societies, but it is not a distinctly "Islamic" problem. it's a human one. an issue of traditional culture. tribal or animist cultures in Africa R also incredibly homophobic, so how is homophobia in Islam considered an "Islam" problem? do we not have a more nuanced view of the homophobes and haters within American and Western Christianity? using the term "Islamic terrorism" isn't politically incorrect, it's tactically incorrect. it makes it harder to defeat the forces U R attempting to describe.

Re: Radical Islamic Terrorism
The Istanbul airport attack is awful. I was there this time last year, actually. The security measures they had in place were unbelievable so it's upsetting that something like this still took place. Also, someone that I was with last night had a friend who had been living in Ankara 4 the past year and was supposed to be flying out of Ataturk tomorrow so he was really worried about that.
The regularity of these events is just too much.

Re: Radical Islamic Terrorism
I don't understand it at all.
I was pleasantly surprised, 4 the most part, when I was living in Paris last year because I noticed very little outward hostility towards the Muslim minority population. Of course, these things tend to be operate more discretely and insidiously nowadays and my French probably wasn't good enough to effectively grasp these nuances.

Re: Radical Islamic Terrorism
No kidding. U think U maybe might not have been in the best position to assess the dynamics of the Muslim community's relationship with French society at large while U were a tourist in France?

Re: Radical Islamic Terrorism
part of the problem 4 French Muslims, as i understand it, is that Paris is extremely segregated. it's unlikely as a tourist that U would even visit the Muslim neighborhoods. that ghettoization was one of the problems cited after the Brussels attacks last year--the Molenbeek neighborhood was segregated and dilapidated, and became a breeding ground 4 extremism.

Re: Radical Islamic Terrorism
There really aren't any rough areas of Paris proper. During the three months that I was there I explored the entire city by foot. There R a few pockets, mostly way up north, that R underdeveloped and R mostly populated by North African immigrants, but it's nothing like Chicago. The reality is that rent prices R too high and all of the government housing has been moved into the suburbs. Historically working class areas or seedy areas like Pigalle R super expensive and chic nowadays.
I spent a whole day in Molenbeek as well and felt totally comfortable. And I'm a pretty big pussy when it comes to finding myself in sketchy areas. I mean, yeah, there were really obvious indicators of segregation and underdevelopment, but it doesn't compare to American inner cities.

Re: Radical Islamic Terrorism
Not that there aren't socio-economic factors that produce this recent groundswell of religious violence and extremism, but I don't think 'ghettoization' is necessarily accurate either.
