I've had nightmares 2 nights in a row and this song is the first thing running through my head when I woke up.

They lean so hard on this chorus and it's just the laziest thing I've ever heard.
This is like 5 years old now, I know.

I think what bothers me the most about this track is that it has potential, but the chorus kills it, and then the stomping kick drum is lazy, and the lyrics are awful. That bouncy violin/cello and vocal melody on the non-chorus isn't bad though.

the undercurrent of violence in EDM, especially as it is pitched to kids (to say nothing of the objectification of women on a scale that makes rap in this decade feel extremely progressive by comparison), troubles me greatly
plus this just sounds like Doop

Sunny.
No amount of Chainsmoker/EDM gloss can hide the fact that at heart this is the kinda song you hear in a depressing truck stop diner outside of Effingham on your way back from art camp.

Feel like I've been hearing that exact song for like 6 years now, but the upload date on the video is from last week.

What I mean is I have been noticing that song a lot lately but have no idea how old it actually is. This kind of hit me when I went back to working my side job on Thursday nights.
In fact, I am hearing it right now!

Apparently this is 3 years old.
I have no words for this entire mini-genre

I don't think there's an official name for this genre but it seems to be Pop Music For Gamers.
I'll probably never get over how successful this channel became in crafting an aesthetic for that audience to identify with.

I mean, at least Dashboard Confessional stumbled on a melody and even wit once in a while.

Ha, that song is good. 92 million plays, wow.
As far as I understand Juice WRLD has a lot of industry backing, but I think he's cool enough.

Kind of expected this post.
Honestly thought it was Post Malone the first time I heard it.

Post Malone is very very bad, agreed. They are doing a similar thing with the super processed rap/rock vocals, but I think Juice WRLD sounds far less annoying. The sample/flow is also closer to XXXTentacion as the commenters on that video note. This is the logical conclusion of people like Lil Uzi Vert coming to dominate the rap charts.
There's definitely a lot of room to label this music "bad", especially if you don't listen to much of it. I'll just say that you can expect popular raps to sound like this for another two years at least.

Probably accurate.
I feel like it's not necessarily this type of thing so much as this particular thing that's bugging me but I guess I've not gone deep with this sound. Also I'm old.

It's definitely the vocals I'm having trouble with but yes it's comforting that this thing I don't like has Sting's hand in it.

Duff do you watch Todd in the Shadows?
Asking because he made this and it was my only exposure to that song ever before you posted about it.
