Jane E Jones is my Anna Ng. No way a woman like that exists in the world, but I will always long for her. I'm somehow only on episode 13.

Finally finished Mad Men. It's remarkably similar to Downton Abbey, where initially it was synonymous with prestige television, but turned out to be little more than a stylish time with beautiful people in fancy period clothing with pretty much nothing to say.

I'm well aware everyone figured this out long ago and there are likely a billion think pieces saying pretty much the same thing from five years ago, but honestly, the Castlevania anime miniseries is more pertinent to our times.

I'm halfway through Season 6 and I disagree with that assessment. It is definitely a period piece but it does a great job revealing some of the subtler transformations in 1960s American culture in the process.  Some of the most poignant moments of that show are scenes like this:

Which they used to close an episode.

Maybe a more accurate way of putting it is both shows came off as having these ambitions of what they wanted to get across and by the end kinda just settled for "Time has changed a lot of things in dramatic fashion, and other things, not so much. Anyway, we'll stop following these characters now." And to be clear, I very much enjoy both shows. Maybe if I'd binged them in a couple of months rather than watched sporadically for a decade I might have a stronger grasp on the thread that's supposed to run through either one. But that's where I am right now.

Gotcha. I haven't finished the series so I can't really comment on that.

Last night I finished the first episode of Season 3 for Halt & Catch Fire. The first 2 seasons were at moments ridiculous but also really charming and entertaining.

I’m looking forward to Season 3 and I’ve noticed a few websites placed Season 4 on their Best of lists for this year.

My God I am in love with Halt and Catch Fire after finishing season 3. Probably not since Six Feet Under have I been this captivated by a series’ core group of characters.

Not to mention the music selection and timing of its use has been perfect. Every episode has made me smile at least once with a song selection. The use of “Velouria” in S3 E9 alone is one of the best things ever.

Finally finished Mad Men. After Duff's comments in this thread I wasn't anticipating the degree of finality for several of the characters and plot lines.

Now I don't know what to watch. Is The Crown actually good? Should I be finding some way to watch The Chi? I never finished the last season of Twin Peaks and I never finished watching the first season of The Young Pope either. Was the new season of Curb any good? And what about The Deuce?

I feel like Betty's whole deal was the only one that felt like it was part of the plan all along. But I dunno.

Have you seen The Good Place? The first season's short (fucking Hulu is only showing the last five episodes of the current season, the bastards) and so are the episodes so it's pretty low commitment. Michael Schur of The Office and Parks & Rec is responsible, if that helps either way. I wonder if your background in philosophy will lead you to love it or really fucking hate it, but I'm a fan.

Then again my main TV thing right now is watching Gilmore Girls so maybe don't listen to me.

The Good Place is the only comedy on network TV that I make a point of watching.  Very funny, tightly written show.

I binge watched Ozark, over 2 days.  An entertaining 2nd rate Breaking Bad.

I ended up watching Mindhunter because it's quick. So far it's pretty good as well.

Thanks for all the suggestions though.
