Staged from last January, I guess

Kudos to the Rockets employee/local improv performer who rocked the Kobe Bryant jersey in this bit, because that's some commitment, dude. The game ops crew might want to talk to Clutch about pulling his punches a bit. Yeesh.

pretty surprised cleveland pulled the trigger on this. they can make the playoffs in a terrible east when irving gets healthy with this squad...but then what? luol's gonna test the market and they gotta start over again.

I was trying really hard to care about this season's post-Rose Bulls, DVRing just about game, but this is gonna break me.

And yeah, what kmac said. What the hell does Cleveland get out of this except an ass whipping in round one? Or worse, a 9 or 10 seed with no playoffs and poor draft odds.

While we're at it, Ohio as a whole. Heard all season about how the Bengals are for real and I was like, "see you in January." Fucking ginger quarterback, as if.

KMac, remember when I said you would regret making the Cavs one of your 5 League Pass teams this year?

unfathomable how many talking heads kept talking about how "talented" this team was. they can't even put 5 decent players on the court at the same time.

Ha, I think I've only watched 2 non-pacers games on league pass. One involved Durante and the other Rubio.
I do like Kyrie Irving but man CLE is bad

too true. i am basically watching 100% Warriors games this year and even then i only catch about one out of every four games.

don't think Kyrie (or John Wall for that matter) are max level players, but i'm not really an expert on that.

on games where i have no allegiance i tend to appreciate highly skilled/creative point guards, hence the inclusion of MIN & CLE in my LP.

"no allegiance" also probably means that Dirk, Duncan, Durant or Curry aren't playing.

    Bulls will make the playoffs.

What difference does it make if you have to play Miami or Indiana in the first round? You'll have to play them eventually, anyway.

They're only 2.5 games in front of the current 9 seed. Now that Deng is gone, and with unspoken front office pressure to tank, I don't think they're a favorite to make the playoffs. Everyone below them is terrible too, though.

Being able to win a series (or maybe just a home playoff game) for your fans seems like something worth fighting for. First in line for the firing squad, not so much.

Before this season, I'd never heard so much talk about teams "tanking." I knew what it was but read a few writers talking about the 76ers and Suns tanking. Then New York and Brooklyn have disappointing starts and there was a lot of talk about them tanking. I've heard people say it about Cleveland, and of course a few other bottom-feeding teams and others that just didn't pile up the wins like people expected it to. On the Bulls message board I read, there's been talk about the Bulls "tanking" since Rose got injured.

Has any team ever successfully "tanked?" I mean, obviously played below their capabilities or made moves to make winning extremely difficult, just to get a better chance at a high draft pick? Everyone is talking about it like all you need is the will to do so and a top 5 lottery pick will be yours. I'm not sure it's that simple!

Bulls have lots of problems but how much of a worse record can they get without actually throwing games and being really obvious about it in the process? This could be said of a number of teams.

I can't remember where I saw this but apparently this is how the Spurs got Duncan. I could be wrong because that was before my time. I was alive and all just not paying attention.

Outside of basketball too? The Penguins did this successfully. The Oilers tried for years but are still a terrible team.

The Golden State Warriors successfully dropped a couple spots at the end of 2011-12, ended up with the third worst record in the West, got the 7th overall pick, and took Harrison Barnes. We benched Monta Ellis and a few others for basically the final 15 games of the season. That single event seems to have increased the chatter about "tanking" tenfold.

The entire "tanking" debate is horribly overblown and the result of talking heads continually saying "tanking" instead of explaining how "rebuilding" works from a personnel management standpoint. Trading away players for cap space and picks (like smart franchises do) hardly degrades the quality of play at all.

"Tanking" has been a huge issue in Australian football for the past, idk, ten years or so at least.

One club was fined $500k because two of its coaching staff supposedly engaged in the practice in 2009.
