Currently squirting a few while listening to Velvets and laboring through the worst of malt liquor headaches. Smoking cigarettes in the apartment, which I think the lease forbids. If the alarm goes off and they tell me I can't then I'll just say "Lou can't die either, but he did."

is someone on the Internet going to make a joke like "looks like he finally got around to listening to Lulu" or something like that? Let me know if you see this anywhere.

I've still not heard it. Along with almost his entire solo career!

I know that faggot Jonathan Franzen is probably typing up some article for The New Yorker about Lou right now. And that frustrates me.

Considered making a "Damn, no Lulu follow-up" post on SOMB but thought better of it.

About to leave my apartment to buy some Sangria, drink it in a park with a friend, then going to a movie (Let the Fire Burn), and then home.

Might feed some animals in the zoo as well.

Lulu is definitely worth hearing. One of the funniest records I've ever heard. And, yeah, I watched football and the World Series on mute for like twelve hours, yesterday, while spinning records.

He recorded a lot of good music and then died at an advanced age. Not a tragedy, just a reminder that the earliest rock canon musicians can now die of old age, which is surreal.

Listened to every VU album over the last couple of days, two of them an hour before news of his death was announced.

    Classy.

Pearl Jam butchered "Waiting For The Man" last night. Google it if you're curious, but be warned it isn't pretty.

been spinning The Quine Tapes about nonstop since I heard this news on Sunday, with some intermittent detours into Lou's solo albums.

teared up during that long, slow, loving take on I'm Waiting for the Man on disc three of the quine tapes.

if anyone who thinks they are a fan of the Velvet Underground hasn't heard that set, drop everything and do it now.

As if 71 is an unnaturally early age to die or something. He probably outlived the average Dollar Menu enthusiast. Opiates for some, cheeseburgers for others.
