I’m going to have to schedule my vasectomy ASAP now. I was hoping to push it off but guess not.

My office thought it’d be fun to have this Monday be “Athleisure Wear Day.” JFC what a nightmare. It’s like all the worst people I see at the grocery store on the weekends are now bleeding into my work environment.

I was at the grocery store the other day wearing white Sambas with matching Adidas sweatpants and a mustard yellow alternate Arsenal jersey!
Regardless, that sounds like a fucking awful idea for the office.

Every single day at noon I get up from my desk where I’ve been reading, writing, or studying and I walk to the bathroom to take a shit. Every single day at noon, the preferred bathroom near my desk has a “no entry” sign posted since this is the time when the janitor cleans that bathroom.

Coworkers always want to talk about my personal life and the more I push back against this, the more I think it's getting me a bad reputation, not as an "asshole" but more as someone who's "quiet" and around here that's not a good thing at all.

I feel you on that it’s a tough balance. People can easily label it as stand-offish but I think it’s also partially on you to try and have that position seen as mysterious.

Re: workingman's blues
I left my job in a shipping warehouse last week and now I'm a paralegal at a family law firm in Woodfield. I'm actually going to miss that other job because the people were great and I loved the early morning hours, but the pay sucked.
I'm pretty sure I hate this new job but I need to give it some more time. Today the owner of the firm called me into his office because he wanted me to go get his lunch out of his car. He went on a thirty minute tangent about properties he helped the University of Chicago purchase in the 1990s for the development of their medical campus. That remains a very problematic subject, but he of course ignored all of that and just told me about the commission he was making.
Then he talked to me for a long time about the Tesla that he drives now (which is conveniently where he 'forgot' to grab his lunch). I'm fairly certain he just wanted an excuse to show off his wealth to the new employee. I mentioned in my interview that I was considering law school, so maybe this is his way of saying "someday you can have this life too, son!"
Whatever he was doing, it was really fucking nauseating and I really don't like him very much anymore.

Re: workingman's blues
I just got laid off from my job this morning.
Despite this being the workingman's blues thread, I want to inform you all that I couldn't have asked for anything better. I'm still an employee until Dec 31 but don't have to work, and then I get 8 weeks severance pay at 100% of my salary, and I retain health insurance for that period too. Basically I'm going to have the job of doing whatever the fuck I want for the next 2.5 months
Also looking for a new job so in theory could be making 2x or more salary for 8 weeks if I were to start somewhere Jan 1

Shitty time of year for anyone to lose their job but that is a great package they provided. Sounds like it is for the best!

Robinhood, the commissions free trading app, will be allowing for commission free options trading. I have been waiting for this day for years now and it comes at a time where my income has a scheduled end date...

Yeah, you can buy futures through a broker. Options are slightly different than futures but they accomplish mostly the same idea.

Re: workingman's blues
I'm six weeks into this new job and I fucking hate it so much. Everyday is somehow more boring and soulless than the last. Also, my boss is a total psycho and control freak. He rides everyone in the office and will just randomly start screaming at people. It's a very weird and toxic environment.
I've totally downed tools at this point and just covertly read at my desk and only bother to even look busy when he is in the office. I have another job lined up but it might be another month before they are hiring new people...
Shit sucks. It's really hard to dread going to work. It's really infantilizing as well and makes me feel like a high schooler again.

I'm totally going back to school someday and completing my PhD. The job market for academics is a total joke and will only get worse and I would be lucky to get an adjunct job someday. At least I would feel excited about what I was doing though.
I'm getting close to having enough for TEFL certification as well. I'll be living and working in Italy soon enough.

Re: workingman's blues
This was an all time rough week. We missed on a client forecast that resulted in a large surplus. Which is normally fine but this client saw it as an unforgivable mistake because they had to react fast to spend it.
Everyday their senior leadership was lighting my ass up on the phone and in email.
Yesterday he goes, “Do you know what is coming next week?” And I said, “Yes, MLK Day.”
He goes, “Correct. And now we have panic to spend this money and be certain we capture those MLK Day shoppers.”
Like, how much more Fuck You City can a guy get when this capitalist shitbird treats MLK Day as an opportunity to push their shitty products?

Re: workingman's blues
I'm officially interviewing again. So far I'm talking to a fashion resale app to be senior business intelligence analyst which is 1.5 hours away but would give me six-figure-plus salary. The other is Merchandise Planner for a smaller fashion brand in NYC that would mean about $15k less per year than I made at my old job.
I'd probably like both jobs about the same.

Re: workingman's blues
Two of my coworkers came out as right wing savages today, one I was not at all surprised by but another who's been really chill and has always had my back and who I never assumed would be on board with the kind of hateful and ignorant ideas they were discussing.
I've been home for about two hours now and I still feel sad and gross over the whole thing.

This quarter’s management training is focused on emotional intelligence.
I answered a question in great enough detail that it warranted a prize from the instructor. The prize is a whistle shaped like a football.

This guy on my team put in his 2 week notice yesterday and today sends an email saying he has to work from home tomorrow because his dog has a vet appointment.
His dog is named Duke after the university. He wears Duke Blue Devil shirts all the time.
This fucking guy went to Illinois State.
