i try hard to vote in all midterms & majors, and all primaries involved

i attempt at a lesser level to vote in local elections.  it helps if there is an asshat running who needs to be knocked out

i am a big fan of YES! for Independent Maps - http://independentmaps.org/ - which (provided they defeat the signature challenges of Madigan & his lawyers) will put the question of re-mapping IL legislative districts by an independent team on the 2014 ballot.

i ideologically and now financially support https://mayone.us/

i've worked as an election official in IN back in HS, and would consider it again in IL if they didn't require so many days of sitting in a training room watching a video or something (this was last time i looked into it).  i've considered volunteering for various candidates but haven't pulled the trigger yet (and all of these for smaller level offices/candidates).  i'd consider it if Toni ran for chicago mayor.

I will probably early vote later this week or early next as I'll be out of the country after that.

Duff, last chance to tell me who to vote for. I'll probably just use the bar association list for judges but I'm pretty open-minded about the referenda and candidates.

Why has and will Obama's 2nd term be so terrible?

Why are the Republicans supposed to do so well in this?

A lot of people say stuff like "when the Boomers finally die out we can start to get things done in this country!" but is that really true? I'm starting to think it's not!

I think Rauner will win. There will be a strong suburban turnout which will give him the election.

Obama has had a horrible term / Presidency IMHO because the economy had not improved. Wages are not increasing under him. We're getting significantly poorer. We are still fighting in Iraq, Gitmo is open and he has been less transparent than the W regime which is saying something.

That would be awesome, too bad most people in this country would probably oppose it and everyone in his party that's up for election next month would be distancing themselves from him ten times more than they already are.

i don't think Rauner is going to pull off the victory. every day brings more scrutiny of his past business dealings and unwillingness to take a concrete stand on anything. we know what kind of devil quinn is, we don't for rauner, and that'll probably be the difference-maker.

although i'd love someone to take office and start pulling the rug out from underneath mike madigan.

Every generation does but to different degrees on different issues. I wouldn't expect a lot of today's RWS issues to live beyond the boomers. But I guess 30-40 years from now there will be other relatively "right wing" positions that millennials will stake out.

I have no doubt that this will be the case and it will probably be even worse than the previous generation.

Rauner is basically a conservative Democrat with little interest in social issues, so if he had any concrete plans on what to do about Illinois finances and they were actually good (if maybe painful) ideas, he'd be real easy to vote for. But if he does, he hasn't told us yet. It's doubtful he'd get much past Madigan anyway. Quinn's fine, but yeah, we know what we're getting with him, and it's unlikely to turn the state around. It might just be a question of what kind of screwed we're gonna be.

I think this is gonna be Oberweiss's year. OK, so Carol Mosley Braun became senator once so maybe I shouldn't be too cocky, it's just I got a lot of projects to get done if this dude is so determined to throw money out the window.

Not sure what to make of this Victim's Bill of Rights thing. It seems difficult to argue with but is this necessary, let alone at a constitutional level? Voting Rights and Contraception are kinda pointless questions in this state but I'll vote yes anyway. I think a Millionaire's Tax is the next best thing to a progressive tax, and I think it's a better policy to tax rich people directly instead of businesses.

I'm genuinely impressed by how formulated these opinions and observations are. Feeling pretty stupid about it since I probably won't vote (not that I prescribe to bullshit college kid mantras like 'don't vote, it only encourages the bastards' or whatever.)

I should probably spend more time researching the real political landscape of my city and State instead of studying capitalism's innate self-destructive tendencies.
(But sidebar: Do you guys know about this shift between CMC to MCM that comes out of Marx's Capital. I spent a really long time reading, thinking about, and writing about Marxist theory last year and never truly understood this simple formula. It makes perfect sense. Also, why can't Capital be stocked in public libraries? That's some silly bullshit.)
