And what do you do when
    Your man kills himself and
How do I make friends now
    And where is my mom
I need to show her that
    She taught me
    And please let me
    Die an instant death

Maybe I'll fold this back into the Now Playing thread or something but idk I just had a profound experience hearing this the other day for the first time in at least 20 years. It was a real gutpunch!

One review of Hello Nasty I remember blasted the album because "Ad-Rock actually sings" (italics included) and that was so obviously a bad thing that you didn't even need to hear the song to know that this album was going to be a little hit or miss.

It's really weird to see the actual release date of this album and see that it came out 2 months after I graduated high school. Even the first single was released, like, the week of my graduation. I remember walking the crowded halls at school and seeing someone wearing a t-shirt that had imagery from the "Intergalactic" music video... how could this be a false memory?

Sounds like Elliott Smith, I also gotta admit to not remembering that one even though I’ve listened to that album 100 times. I personally like the ‘rock’ oriented songs on this album over much of the ‘rap’ songs. I’ve always felt that the Beastie Boys were one of the coolest bands. They had chops as musicians and they were clearly open to new ideas so when you see live shows with them as a band it’s like a better sunburned hand of the man, with the same level of experimentation/weirdness, but better musicianship.

Yeah I guess this should just become the official Beastie Boys thread cause they deserve it. Once or twice a year I remember that they are quite literally my favorite band of all time in every possible way.  Sometimes I forget this though.

Anyway, this was a fun thing I saw on the internet today:

it was only within the last couple years that i realized ad rock is married to kathleen hanna, and everything about that is rad as fuck and makes both of those humans look even cooler (as if that were even possible).

I just hit shuffle on my entire library of Beastie Boys songs and the very first thing that played was “Fight for your Right,” and that is absolutely not what I was wanting or expecting but immediately I realized that if I were better that WOULD have been exactly what I wanted and now I’m in a good mood.
