Re: Last Compact Disc you purchased
Does it automatically charge international shipping or is that some bullshit you have to work out with countless back and forth emails?

Are they good? I love Destroyer so much but have never really taken the time to explore their discography. Where is the best place to start?

May as well start at the beginning. Their first three albums are their best, and their third (Twin Cinema) is the best of those; it features a full-band version of Destroyer's "Streets of Fire."

Off the top of my head, these are the Destroyer or Destroyer-adjacent songs later redone by The Pornos.

But I'd say that this sorta "I Know I'm Not Wrong"-aping song is his best contribution to the band. It's a damn strong field vying for that crown, though, I assure you.

Burial is bundling all his post-Untrue releases into a 2-disc release.

Re: Last Compact Disc you purchased
The last compact disc I purchased was the newest Breeders album and that was back in the summer. I think I've bought like 3 CDs this year.

Re: Last Compact Disc you purchased
If I was writing something about 24-year-olds hanging out in a record shoppe, would it make any sense for them to be interested in compact discs? Do people like that exclusively do vinyl these days? Do any of them do vinyl?
Probably a great idea to write about a group I have so much contact with.

Re: Last Compact Disc you purchased
Vinyl is such an expensive thing to "get into", I don't know how anyone who isn't working a full time job with benefits can afford a turntable and a setup (even the "entry level" record players are like $500, no one even acknowledges the legitimacy of anything more affordable), yet it's a culture that's totally attached to the idea of being young and hip (and somehow poor and not weighed down by material possessions).
I realize there's a huge Boomer vinyl culture but for countless obvious reasons that's a very different mindset.
Yeah, this is not a fresh observation.

I mean, I asked.
And I was kinda thinking that as I was trying to think of where this guy would put all those records while drawing his studio apartment with no furniture in it.

Re: Last Compact Disc you purchased
My one computer with a cd drive is on the fritz so now I literally don’t even have a way to listen to a cd. My beat up car doesn’t even have a CD player in it, but for whatever reason I still put my cd holder with the same like 15 cds I’ve had in there for the last 10 years in the overhead flip down mirror. The hundreds of cds I own are in a storage unit in Virginia at the house I’m renting for too cheap to my damn ex wife.
I think CDs are finally over for me.

Re: Last Compact Disc you purchased
I bought the Young Marble Giants album used for $2.
Crazy because I'd been listening to Hole a bit last week and the one song that really stuck out for me on Live Through This was "Credit in the Straight World," then a few days later I found me out it's not even a Hole song at all!

Re: Last Compact Disc you purchased
My current car has not CD player, not because it's too old, but because it's too new! Regular radio, SiriusXM and a blue tooth connection but no CD. So the previous utility of used CDs, convenient and cheap enough to keep in my car and not have to worry if they became unplayable due to my carelessness has evaporated.
I still have a 5 disc changer at home, and recently rebought Super Ae and Vision Creation Newsun because those are good house cleaning albums.

Re: Last Compact Disc you purchased
The only cds I buy are from the thrift store and their usually either new age or those generic thunder storm cds
Or 90s music I was never a fan of but wanted to randomly check out (shit like “belly”)

The Metallica website has LULU deluxe CD/book set on sale for $12. It was originally $30 so I’m buying it!

I remember the really funny reception of that album during the heyday of the first LoPP board. I could never tell if the praise for it coming from people like Paves was intended as ironic or not.

I absolutely hate it.
