    Rest In Peace, Coolrock

Post by Escobar Season on Sat Sep 13, 2014 5:59 am

Coolrock died in 2010. He was the man.

Did you know he had a song called "Good Girls" released on Casablanca and on the "Roller Boogie" soundtrack

Back in the day, he sent me a dope mix CD that introduced me to one of the best songs ever made, "Ca Plane Pour Moi."

    RIP

He was great, at least as far as I could tell from his boarding. Was thinking about him just the other day, wondering how that all resolved. Thanks for starting this thread and sharing the song.

Shortly after he died a friend of mine with no SOMB connection spontaneously put on Roller Derby. He seemed a good dude.

I vastly prefer the English language version of the song you mentioned, but man 'Good Girls' fucking slays.

He did. Even humored Fender's proselytizing while he was dying of cancer.

He owned a coffee shop in Homewood that my emo band played at in the late 90s. I had no idea how cool he was since, at the time, he just seemed like a guy who would own a coffee shop in the late 90s, whatever I thought that meant back then. Wish I was older and could have known him more.

I met him once at Sound Opinions event at the Abbey, Mars Volta played at. He was the only person there wearing a suit. Super nice guy.

Does anybody have anything he posted in an archive? If not: that's too bad. I would love to read it again.

I remember when he posted this song and I first listened to it on the train. I listened intently, envisioning him stumbling through a ghetto in L.A. looking for his next crack hit.

It was heartbreaking to see him doing gigs with the daughter he abandoned as a dead beat dad: and then, poof: cut short. The world would be a better place if he was still gigging with her now.
