Do school kids even use pencils anymore? I honestly don't know. Considered posting that pic in WP adjusts to college dorm life, but didn't really seem like this was what that thread, or college dorm life in general are all about.

It's hard to imagine kids using pencils after grade school in 2013. I hope they're still teaching cursive though, if for no other reason than to develop an elegant signature. Although mine looks like crap and I was schooled in the pencil age.

From what I understand kids today are always taking standardized tests, so I don't know what they'd use besides #2 pencils.

Pencils and cursive are both in the 2nd grade curriculum.

I had to use the internet to look up 'mode' while checking a math worksheet last night.

    <3 Ticonderoga.

I always preferred 0.5 mm lead for my mechanical pencils. I've been a pen guy for a long time though.

And I can't write cursive because it's useless.

I don't like Ticonderoga pencils because I think the green and yellow ferrule is unnatural and disturbing.

I learned recently that kids learn cursive before print in Montessori. I think I'm going to need a refresher on how to read it in the next year or two.

First experience in my life that I can remember in dealing with "hipsters" was this kid Joe's insistence that Ticonderogas were the only acceptable pencils to be used. I'm not sure why it was different than all the other ways kids tried to be cool in gradeschool, but I knew that it was even then.
