i mean, the relative success of his candidacy has exposed the awful underbelly of american society to many who probably would have pretended it didn't exist (or continue to do so). that a massive amount of voters (remains to be seen) americans hold these opinions is something that we should be paying attention to. some of these R people who have legit gripes with the way things have worked out economically, and this should be worked on. on the other hand, some of them R legit awful people, and we should work to marginalize their opinions while trying NOT to marginalize them as humans.

I agree with U. I think ultimately it would function to legitimate their worldviews and their soft appeals 4 political violence.

Also, I wasn't trying to imply that I want him to be assassinated. I think he is a really shitty human being who has the potential, if elected, to ruin a lot of people's lives. I wish there was someway 4 him to quietly just go the fuck away but I definitely don't wish death on him.

There's been a lot of work done to de-legitimize any possible future event that would derail his campaign or unequivocally render him un-elecetable. Whatever scandal he may fall into, violence that he may provoke, misfortune that may fall upon him, it's all surrounded in baseless statements that get circulated around that it's something that the Democrats R planning and his base would sooner assume that it's all part of a conspiracy than accept literally any reason to believe that they shouldn't vote 4 him at this point.

And yeah, I know there's no point persuading the base to not vote 4 him but there was always a hypothetical line in the past that that Republicans wouldn't cross 4 their candidate and I just don't think that exists right now.

I don't want to C him assassinated, it would only confirm the worst suspicions of the alt-right and there would be retaliation that would probably last 4 decades.

I don't know if I can watch the debate tonight. I don't know if I can handle what a shit show this whole news cycle is going to become.

Why would I watch this?

How would Trump getting DESTROYED even affect his poll numbers.

This weekend I also decided that the republican party might just be a white nationalist party at this point.

I've been pretty confident that the Clintons have been patiently waiting the last 15-1/2 years to unload holy hellfire on the entire Republican Party, but I'm starting to wonder what they're waiting 4.

I recently read a pretty convincing speculation that Trump's tax return issue is probably at least in part due to a mutually lucrative business relationship with the Bin Laden family. If Hillary is really the criminal mastermind that they say she is, that would make a hell of an October surprise.

I'll probably be Roku-ing the debate via youtube. Very likely if the Young Turks or Sam Seder will be providing running commentary.

Which reminds me - social media wasn't nearly what it is now even in 2012, right? I heard that today is the 56th anniversary of the paradigm-shifting Kennedy-Nixon debate that was the first of the TV Age. I'm pretty confident that we're now in an era that hadn't quite arrived 4 years ago.

Apparently Pence is completely unaware of anything Donald Trump has said over the last year.

He is gonna run in 2020 and I think he will stand a good chance of winning then, which is a terrifying thought.
