First Dance Music Empty First Dance Music

Post by Pete Best Tue Apr 22, 2014 4:29 pm

    Hello,

I'm getting married next April, blah blah blah.

We've not settled on a first dance but we do have some probables. Looking for opinions from solid bros.

Nick Drake - 'Northern Sky' my wife-elect is from Scotland.

    The Beatles - 'Something'

Nick Cave - 'Into My Arms' neither of us are religious. Is this song a cliché now?

Mazzy Star - 'Fade Into You'

Van Morrison - 'Into The Mystic'

Velvet Underground - 'I Found A Reason' I know Cat Power's is popular but is very short. A mix of hers into theirs?

Cat Power - 'Sea of Love' Is prominent in Juno so a bit honest to blog. I don't even like Cat Power *that* much

The Ramones - 'Baby, I Love You'

David Bowie - '"Heroes"' A bit egotistical and it's about Visconti's affair.

Blur - 'You're So Great' Sounds like it was recorded in a swamp.

Aphex Twin - 'Avril 14th' Short and a bit chin strokey

Ed Harcourt - 'Apple of My Eye'

Maccabees - 'Toothpaste Kisses' think this is becoming a cliché now as well

Arthur Russell - 'A Little Lost' Only I, her and one other guest will know this song.

Bob Dylan - 'Lay Lady Lay'

    Pulp - 'Something Changed'

    Thoughts?

If I were one for marriage, I would probably plump for The Man in Me

Where are you getting married. In a church?

I think my girlfriend is anxious to settle down and have children at this point. That will be our demise, partly because I've been to a Catholic wedding before and I'm not sitting through another four hour service.

I'd be interested in hearing a mixed version of the Velvets' into Cat Power's "I Found a Reason" regardless of the circumstance.

lots of nice choices there, "a Little Lost" would be great but yeah, seems like it'd be a weird one to dance to. a gun-to-my-head pick from your list and would probably be "fade into you"

I'm getting married next fall and I think we've settled on The Magnetic Fields' "The Book of Love."

This would work very well for us as we watched 'The Big L' on our "first date"

Roughly speaking about the same as it would have done to have the wedding in South Scotland. Drinks, food and all that jazz will be more expensive. Photographer, venue, fees the same or cheaper.

Obviously Iceland isn't cheap for our guests so we aren't going out for two weeks like is possible in Greece or somewhere like that. However, I'm not having a stag do in a foreign country so that cuts out expense that people would usually incur.

Having been to many family and friend's nuptials recently, I can fully imagine that a couple coming to ours in South Scotland on train/plane staying for a couple of nights, food, drink etc etc could spend £1000 as we have done in similar circumstances. I'd rather people spent £1200 and had a real once in a lifetime experience of Iceland, that's the hope anyway.

We are probably going to pay for the hotel rooms on the night so that will absorb a large cost.

I like most of those choices but would recommend choosing something shorter rather than longer.

    Our first dances were:
Bride/Groom: Bjork - "Who Is It"
Father/Daughter: That ukelele "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What A Wonderful World" song. My wife wasn't into it, but her dad loves it so whatevs.
    Mother/Son: Yaz - "Only You"
