So, I definitely jumped the gun there. At the risk of jinxing myself, I'll give a bit of an update:
I was selected to be a Foreign Area Officer, which is pretty much my dream job. A diplomatic liaison billet, where I brush up on [fill-in-the-blank] language, and then go off to serve in foreign areas in attaché type positions, basically hanging out with our international partners and convincing them that America is the bomb.

The problem is… I am still probably getting booted out of the navy due to poor numbers. And once that happens, the job job goes away. Theoretically, it should be much harder to become a FAO than to promote to LCDR. But these days, shit's all weird. If I get passed over for promotion again, the FAO community loses a guy who they see as being of value, and I become unemployed. Like getting drafted number one and then getting banned from baseball for life for not having a high enough batting average in high school. It's dumb.

At this point, I'm holding out hope for the best but preparing for the worst. bounce

    Which numbers are poor, exactly?

Promotion percentages. Specifically for naval flight officers. Promotion board recently adjourned and this board was my last chance to promote to LCDR as a flight officer.

Interestingly enough, if I had been accepted as a FAO last year, the board would've looked at me as a FAO... and I'd be a shoe in - they get promoted at like a >90% rate.
