It was an awesome and wonderful and weird night. A small group of beautiful people showed up around 4am (it was super late after shitty Tiesto finally finished up his circus EDM Act over at Hakkasan).  The room was incredible, a swank Japanese suite with an UNREAL view of the strip and the Bellagio Fountains from a broad private balcony.

Pre-game as the E started hitting strong was my go-to Cocteau Twins megamix, which people LOVED.  Post game was a mix of a little bit of the early end of the following Quiet Storm mix and then freestyling with a bunch of Basement Jaxx, Aphex Twin, Azalea Banks, Buraka Son Sistema. Broadcast, Prince, Chemical Brothers, Andy Stott, Depeche Mode remixes, DZihan and Kamien, Engineers, the Juan McLean, Leyland Kirby, Luomo, Marvin Gaye, My Bloody Valentine, Ricardo Villalobos, Toro Y Moi, Twin Shadow, Tangerine Dream and the Xx.

I was in the mix and pretty much killed.  People were digging it.  Champagne and ketamine flowed.  It was a crazy fun night.

I am trying to finally get to the Sexy Electronic Volume of my anticipated series.  I have this idea that it opens with Depeche Mode "World in my Eyes."  It should have songs that are primarily electronic or featuring synthesizers, but that feel sexy and organic and seductive.  Not straight robot-vocoder stuff, though that could possibly work.  Mostly syntho funk- dubby- electronic.  Any suggestions?

I have an embryonic idea for a new mix, mostly based on two songs that represent a certain sound that I'm obsessed with at the moment, Tame Impala's "The Less I know the Better," and Toro Y Moi's "Still Sound."  Might also throw in My Morning Jacket's "Off the Record."  Looking for more songs that have that sort of clean, poppy, flat, zippy bass, nigh Jam Band-y neo white soul appeal.  It's sort of like flat Plastic Soul with a groove to it, hard for me to nail down but I know it when I hear it.

    Suggestions?

This seems like a hard target to hit, would you just naturally lean into Phoenix and similar pop or is it more soulful? One of the DFA or Kitsuné bands? Maroon Five?? I took some guesses below, no idea if these are close or not, ha.

Now I'm onto the idea of a sort of sophisticated male black crooner version of Quiet Storm, stuff like George Benson, Bobby Caldwell, Earth, Wind and Fire.  Like, sophisticated grown up slick love funk, super well produced ear candy type of stuff, with groove.

I'm calling Vol. 1 "Michael McDonald had a farm"

The Stylistics- "Hurry Up this Way Again"
    Ramsey Lewis- "Brazilica"
Bobby Caldwell- "What U Won't Do 4 Love"
Earth, Wind and Fire- "That's the Way of the World"
Maze featuring Frankie Beverly- "Joy and Pain" (12" version)
Roy Ayers Ubiquity- "Ain't no Sunshine" (Bill Withers cover)
    Shuggie Otis- "Inspiration Information"
The Soul Children- "We're Getting Too Close"
    Boz Scaggs- "Lowdown"
    Herb Alpert- "Rise"
MSFB- "Love is the Message" (Danny Krivet 12" re-edit)
    Billy Cobham- "Red Baron"
Michael Jackson- "I Can't Help It" (Todd Terje Tangoterje 12" remix)
The Doobie Brothers- "Minute by Minute"
    Steely Dan- "Black Cow"
George Benson- "Give Me the Night" (Extended 45" edit)
Billy Ocean- "Night (Feel Like Gettin' Down)"

This Ohio Players spinoff album is good front-to-back and produced by Leon Ware...sounds like if Michael McDonald was a real life black individual:

And U obviously know this from the Heavy Metal soundtrack:

I'm already putting together Vol. II...I need somewhere to put these Leon Ware, Ronnie Laws, Rodney Franklin and Billy Preston cuts, plus the One-Two punch of Lowrell's "Mellow Mellow Right on Right On" into Hall and Oates "I Can't Go 4 That"
