Thread to help with identifying songs.

Bruegel will get this one in half a second, unless I'm so severely misremembering that my description bares no resemblance to the actual song.

Electronic, late 80s or early 90s, possibly acid house but I'm not too confident about that detail, I think the vocalist is a black American, but I'm almost certain the producers are white and British, the vocals are mostly present during the more subdued parts of the song and the closest thing to a chorus is an instrumental bit.

That would all be just about vague enough to not be much help, but I also remember a lyric along the lines of 'but not all God's creatures are born with the same chances'. Googling this phrase + 'lyrics' is giving me nothing but this one country and western song called 'All God's Critters Got a Place in the Choir', so I'm probably butchering the lyric.

The only thing I'm 100% certain of is that this song was massively popular and influential, and not being able to work out what it is is driving me crazy.

Is the black American male or female?

Oh yeah, definitely female. Seems like an important detail to forget to mention, sorry.

I know this song is one of those undebatable early house classics, but for me it's sounding pretty dated. The vocals are too melodramatic (even by house diva standards) and the lyrics are comically bad ("they say a tree is as tall as its many branches/but not all gods children have the same chances"). There are far better piano riff driven vocal dance tunes from this period; it's not even one of the better tunes on Sasha and Digweed's own Renaissance mix.

Anybody remember who did that "juke that box" song from the old board?
