I quite liked Acid Rap 4 the most part. It had a few tracks that didn't totally resonate with me but not like the new one. 10 Day even had a track or two I liked but Coloring Book really just does nothing 4 me. I am admittedly not religious at all, a reaction from a childhood of Catholicism, and get an overwhelming back-at-church vibe - that's that shit I don't like.

Re: 2016 Musical Recordings
I gave it another couple listens and a handful of the songs R outstanding. Maybe even the best I've heard this year. But overall it's rap music that is way too positive 4 me. Even if he'd bumped a couple of the overtly gospel tracks it'd still be too much optimism.

This is a wrong-headed take. He feels like a smarter version and that's problematic 4 me. I'm with c-poots on the religious shit-I-don't-like. It's too purposeful. He has too much to say. I want something stupider.
I'll probably bang some tracks from this 4 the next month though.

Thom is too cool. He randomly goes into a sort of caricature of Iggy Pop around the 1:50 mark or something. It's hysterical.

I'm really digging the indie rock resurgence happening w/ bands like Car Seat Headrest and Modern Baseball. Happy to hear guitars in 2016.

Unclear. R U surprised I like those bands or R U not aware of those bands? Or some third option?

Re: 2016 Musical Recordings
A combination of all three. I've never heard of them, think their names R hilarious, and (this is kind of mean...) but the idea of being excited about an indie rock resurgence is pretty fucked.

Re: 2016 Musical Recordings
the rock will always be a cherished part of our white boy hearts. U can only listen to so much Jeremih and Rihanna before U need some of those guitars, man.
i feel this all the time. i am nostalgic 4 my days of discovering classic rock, jamming out to live Allman Brothers records, hearing Entertainment! 4 the first time, moping around the house 2"The Killing Moon", listening to Franz Ferdinand records a hundred times, going to C a band called Sunset Rubdown three times, having the drummer of The Black Lips throw a bag of sour cream & onion Lays into the crowd at an Amoeba Records in-store performance, fucking 2Meat is Murder. rock is in my soul.
as always, Dave put it best:

Re: 2016 Musical Recordings
That Modern Baseball song I heard is pretty good and indietastic. As always the indie I'm into is more girly bullshit like Mitski and Sunflower Bean. But have mostly been living on Jeremih and Carly Rae Jepsen these days and that's fine with me.

Re: 2016 Musical Recordings
I liked a couple rock albums in 2014...both modern-day masterpieces:
I'm more than okay with giving up on new bands and just listening to the James Gang, though.

I haven't been to many shows and mostly go to clubs (European definition. I know a nightclub is something different in America) nowadays, but I'll give all the bands on this page a shot because the second half of this post has absolutely nothing to do with the first.

Re: 2016 Musical Recordings
I'm sorry but if they wanted to be taken seriously they obviously would not name their band that. They will make two more shitty records and then disappear into total irrelevance, which is just the standard arc 4 all these bands. It's exhausting to keep track of and gimmicky.
The idea that growing up means U uncritically engage with 2016s indie rawk resurgence is actually offensive.

Re: 2016 Musical Recordings
I don't think anybody's being uncritical here. Sounded to me like Miguel K just enjoyed a couple of records. Indie rock these days is just synonymous with pop/rock songs sung by bands with guitars right? Whether U do or don't acknowledge some sorta "indie rawk resurgence" is irrelevant. Getting excited about new music is still pretty fucking cool, and honestly I'm a bit envious. I will make a point to listen to both of these things even if I think one of the band names is dumb (the best kind of baseball is the kind that isn't modern imo).

Re: 2016 Musical Recordings
Seems accurate but fuck is that boring. Not only am I uninterested in hearing it but none of these artists R even capable of explaining why their own projects R interesting. They just end up talking about Jay-Z was a huge influence and how they get melancholic listening to Miley Cyrus.Ned Braden wrote:I don't think anybody's being uncritical here. This is anecdotal, and I never thought this band was worth a damn to begin with, but I'll never forget the time I met the band Wavves at some shitty college party. I tried to talk to the bassist 4 a little bit because I knew that he recorded with Jay Reatard but it was pretty evident that he wasn't interested. They just kind of stood there like idiots and made shitty jokes about Friends and kept trying to smoke our weed. It was so fucking embarrassing and lame.
It was basically in that moment that I decided I was totally done with this shit. I think a few months later Ezra Koenig had that stupid Rolling Stone article about Miley Cyrus. Ever since then I absolutely refuse to engage with this shit. I'm content just endlessly exploring the back catalog of legendary artists from yesteryear, figuring out how they thought about their lives and project, and what they were listening to. And when I'm not doing that, I wanna hear "Controlla" by Drake and imagine myself dancing in some club with a bunch of Trinidadians.
