    Elodie - La Porte Ouverte

A great soundtrack to performing menial administrative tasks and occasionally staring out of the window at falling snow.

Probably works well in other contexts too.

Only new albums I've heard are RTJ3 and The XX.

XX is a nope nope but I like RTJ.

Somewhere the boarder known as Montana is waking up and disagreeing with The Flaming Lips getting a 6.2 on Pitchfork.

I'm more interested in what he would say about Wayne Coyne's antics these last few years than I am actually hearing and formulating my own opinion on the Flaming Lips music.

Listened to the Ty Segall lp by Ty Segall. I tried this guy's music out a few years ago, and still can't get totally behind it. I think I like what he's trying to do, but don't like how he does it.

I don't think either of these are considered 2017 recordings but I've been meaning to post about the new EP from The-Dream. It's really good return to Love King type material after the shitty IV Play bullshit. He has a new album set to drop soon and if it is all as good as this then I can't wait.

Also, I think all of the Ariana Grande singles from that last album are undeniable. "Side to Side" is great and I just heard "Everyday" w/ Future for the first time on the radio yesterday and I can't stop bumping this.

I'm shocked to report that I'm really feeling this new Lana Del Rey single.  Been more than a few years since I could say something like that.

It is the year 2017 and the artist Father John Misty writes a 9 minute song called "So I'm Growing Old On Magic Mountain."

And I somehow think, "Yes, Father John Misty you've written a song I'm enjoying stuck on a delayed train."

It's the type of track that even while you are listening to it you have already forgotten how it goes, if that makes any sense.

i've seen a few people say (including our very own Will Monotony) that it was a mistake to name her lead single the same thing as a Beyonce song. but i'm just thinking of this:

also, Lorde's "Green Light" conceptually feels like a retread from her Disclosure song awhile back which I FUCKING LOVE.

makes this outing extra disappointing. the processing on her voice in "Green Light" is pretty awful.

    Yes to all of that.

I think the breach between the more somber verse to the more celebratory bridge to chorus is awkward enough the first time, doing it twice more just highlights that. The chorus comes like a Mumford & Sons song, my head almost expected it turn into "I Bet My Life" by Imagine Dragons.

it's the Lorde aesthetic, but watered down by modern pop sensibilities in the worst way. there are ways to do it effectively and this does not strike me as one of them.

    this is a surprise:

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2017/03/02/with-green-light-lorde-falls-victim-to-the-taylor-swift-effect.html

Daily Beast wrote:After listening to the song, it should come as no surprise that it was co-written and co-produced by Jack Antonoff, the mastermind behind pop groups fun. and Bleachers who also happened to be behind Taylor Swift’s transition from already highly successful niche artist to incomparably popular mainstream star—a trajectory that “Green Lights” certainly lays the groundwork for Lorde to follow.

it all makes sense why this is awful imlikewhoa

Antonoff seems like a nice enough dude to me, but his taste is fucking bland/terrible
