Re: 2017 Musical Recordings
the first one is great and the rest are just alright. but you can't expect a band to write 12 great songs. most people can barely even write one

^ that said, accessible Errorsmith reminded me how great Mark Fell's Sensate Focus project was, so I'll spend the next few hours listening to that.

Man this album was a disappointment. I didn't like Expo 86 but seemed like this was their "return to their roots" album. Maybe the cheaper production style really adds something to their sound when they play more straight forward "indie-rock" because this sounded clean and boring.

Does he consider this a collection of throwaways not worthy of a new album cover?
This is my favorite release from him in some time.

Re: 2017 Musical Recordings
Misread the title to this St. Vincent record as MASSEDUCATION and I'm pretty disappointed that it's not the real name.

Yea I made that post a couple songs into my initial listen. Four more spins since and this is not a good album.

I'm also very disappointed in the Destroyer album. It isn't bad but not really memorable. I actually think the songs are too short.

Re: 2017 Musical Recordings
Nick, I've heard every Destroyer record and this is the first one which I mostly enjoy. Especially the "Ceremony" cover called "Tinseltown Swimming in Blood"! I'm always just down with a couple songs per album, but I finally didn't hear much that I wasn't feeling.

Ken sounds to me like a bunch of ideas he had leftover from Kaputt and Poison Season. I think the songs just come and go without leaving any impression on me. This is the first Destroyer album where I'm not engaged with each successive listen trying to memorize lyrics and find new subtleties with his instrumentation.
I think Bejar should have extended several of these tracks with more New Order like flourishes and be actively more indulgent because this feels like an insignificant transition album.
