I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass was how I got into the band, so that attachment held for a long time. Definitely some of my favorite jams on there. Seeing "Pass the Hatchet" live at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 2016 was a life highlight for me.
Then it was the classic I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One which I feel is slightly more complete overall. And it reaches the very high highs. That 90s fuzz combined with the more offbeat stuff that YLT does so well is incredible. There's many subtly beautiful moments all over that record. Even "My Little Corner of the World", which for most bands would be a nothing song, is one of my personal favorites.
Over time though, of course, it's And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out.... It is my essential album for melancholy. I turn to it all the time. I turn to individual tracks on it all the time. "Cherry Chapstick", which I was obsessed with 10 years ago and used to listen to incessantly, could be cut from the fucking album and I'd feel the same way. "Let's Save Tony Orlando's House" might be the best YLT song? I might be the only person that's put on just "Night Falls on Hoboken" and listened to it twice in a row. Every song is pretty damn special to me. Whenever I hear the notes, it takes me away. Few albums make me feel this way.
