Shouts of to David Drake for constantly posting about the random niche rappers on Twitter and introducing me to this dude. He's going on tour right now (Chicago show already sold out as David noted, lol) so I got back into some listening last night.
Lil Peep is some skinny white dude with face tattoos who was born in Long Island and relocated to LA to continue his music I think? The music is a combination of lo-fi rap and emo revival. So basically the singing is a lot of that reverb heavy "emo voice" and the rapping is all about drugs, sadness, and wanting to kill yourself. The beats can be reminiscent of early Clams Casino or other melancholic Lil B music, but its actually fairly diverse. Just lo-fi "beats" with some sort of atmospheric or guitar sample. I think this stuff is really funny and occasionally really good.
I think some of the other people on here who like rap weirdos will agree.
