Pusha T & Kanye West have dropped 2 boring albums in 2018.

This was more about the Pusha album. The beats on there are pretty nice. The new Kanye is mostly boring, yeah. Feels very much like an EP event.

Only 23 minutes or so long? God I waited 2 years for 20 odd minutes of music, I feel like such a mug

Re: 2018 Musical Recordings
No chance I'm listening to this Kanye bullshit
I've still got a lot of resolve on my 100% Kanye embargo

Re: 2018 Musical Recordings
This sounds kind of good to me, but merely good is a major let down considering that practically everything he's ever touched has been outright great. Damn

The new Father John Misty is better than DAYTONA and ye. This post will not change in 2-3 weeks!

Re: 2018 Musical Recordings
The minute I finished ye I went and listened to Life of Pablo and feel like the new album is even worse. I'll try it again but like Soma said, its just good and even that I'm not that sure I believe much.

it's pretty much consensus at this point that The Life of Pablo Sucks, right?
even the highs from that feel totally dated and stupid at this point
No More Parties in LA makes me laugh and it bangs, but overall it's an astonishingly poorly edited piece of work

Re: 2018 Musical Recordings
Haha yes TLOP was his worst album until he dropped this turd on us. No More Parties is IMHO an all time Kanye verse stand out. I like “Fade” and “Waves” but the rest is not very good.

Re: 2018 Musical Recordings
I disagree. I thought it was absolutely his worst when it first dropped, and I do tired of hearing about his relationship with Kim, but I've really grown on the sloppy less self-restrained Kanye beat style that TLoP embodies. But I'm in the Yeezus is likely his best camp, so take that for what its worth.

Not liking music for sounding dated was totally something I did when I was 15 or so. I think its a ridiculous concept now.

Re: 2018 Musical Recordings
Just deleted every Kanye West album from my phone last week, no way in hell I'm adding a new one this week.
Looks like I listened to LoP five times, which says about what we need to know about how I felt about that record. "No More Parties" and "Feedback" I remember fondlly though.

I took me several weeks to make it all the way through that last record.

Kanye isn't "dated" in the sense the sounds he's using sounds that are of a particular time or era. I don't think New Order sounds dated and I wasn't using the term that way. Rather, I think that the "excitement" around the last few Kanye albums has been the art itself and the music is lacking in depth. TLoP is dated because the things that were interesting about that album were the leaks, the Bound 2 video nonsense, the Tidal stunt, the collaborators, the wild sampling. Divorced from that context, it doesn't hold up to me as a singular work. Hence, it is "dated".

Re: 2018 Musical Recordings
I think that The Life of Pablo may be his best album (either that or Yeezus, like CPoots said) and I'm not sure if a month goes by without me listening to it
I didn't get around to hearing it until the tracklist had been finalised and maybe we're not even talking about the same thing, but surely the differences can't be that great. I'm so confused

Re: 2018 Musical Recordings
I will concede that every negative thing that's been typed about TLoP on this page applies to how I feel about MBDTF, and I can't even remember what Watch the Throne sounds like, so perhaps 'practiclly everything he's ever touched has been outright great' is a bit of an exaggeration

Re: 2018 Musical Recordings
i'm of the opinion that Watch the Throne has actually held up very well over time and i famously dislike Jay-Z. i would put that record on before TLoP anyday. i was also a huge Yeezus fan upon release and for like a year afterwards, but it's lost a lot of luster for me too. i can't imaging putting on "Blood on the Leaves" now and being able to earnestly enjoy it . there's some stuff on Yeezus that i think is fantastic, but about half has the same problem that TLoP has for me. MBDTF also has a similar issue, which is why i point to that record as a turning point for him. that's when he started making records that captured the zeitgeist instead of being more forward looking.

I agree that Watch the Throne holds up surprisingly well (forgot to take that off my phone, thanks).

I love the Stereolab vibes in this and there's more I can't put my finger on but it's nice.

^this morning I watched this while having my coffee and it was the most lovely thing I'd ever heard.
Tonight I watched it again and it's kind of irritating me for some reason.

Re: 2018 Musical Recordings
I’ve tried twice to get through the new Neko Case album but haven’t made it. I’ve also come close to crying each of the 6 times I’ve listened to the new YOB.
