    90$ music Empty 90$ music

Post by coyote Wed Oct 20, 2021 11:29 pm

It could be this gummy but I had this thought that stone temple pilots really had something there with plush

Damn I didn’t really care for stp then

But this is some nostalgic music

    Plush has those tones

    They’re actually so psychedelic

    They take you back

    To those 90$ daze

Really listen to how trippy plush is

Don’t take my word for it

    Signed, 90$ music guru

"Interstate Love Song" was playing at Trader Joe's this morning, came on the back of "Voices Carry", so pretty good Songs Heard in Public day.

Time has been kinder to them than pretty much any of their "peers," imo

Then again I turned off one of their songs on the radio the other day 3 seconds after it began.

But THEN AGAIN it was their cover of "Dancing Days" from a Led Zeppelin tribute album, that's not pure STP so maybe it doesn't count. Both that and the Sheryl Crow cover of "D’yer Mak’er" are forever with us

I like that "Dancing Days" cover. "D'yer Mak'er" can get fucked though, yeah.

Always thought the guitar part at the beginning of the chorus of "Tripping On a Hole in a Paper Heart" had a Holy Fucking Shit!!! These Songs are the Same Song!!! thing going on with "Dancing Days".

I vaguely recall an eight month run in college where I smoked an insane quantity of weed and only listened to No. 4.

I’ve never listened to that but I remember it. It’s lame that nobody wanted to cover No Quarter, probably LZs coolest epic jam.

Man everybody I cared to know in high school had Purple in their CD binder, and I remember ALWAYS seeing that CD with the dragon scale looking pattern while flipping thru books on the bus on the way to baseball games or whatever. That and like at least two Beastie Boys CDs with the Grand Royal logo on it (the red one and green one) and that orange and blue cd of Tragic Kingdom.

Every now and then I think about how hard Jim Derogatis went in for Veruca Salt's Resolver.
Technically, it's a 00 record. But was made and sounds like what you would imagine 90s female-fronted bands to be like. Even if they weren't in reality.

    Anywho, Sleater-Kinney wasn't that good.

I'm convinced that every song posted in this thread blows away anything from the last decade, at least in terms of music that was actually "popular" and could be heard on the radio or in any similar sense of distribution for the public.

This is, of course, exactly how I should feel having been a teenager in the 90s. Perhaps it is the single most predictable opinion I could ever express?

I didn't want to feel this way, after all this is following the exact behaviors and beliefs of our parents, who fell into the nostalgia trap because they were really the first generation who had that teenage experience and were raised in an idyllic boomtime that molded them to eventually feel this way as they reached middle age and beyond. Perhaps that cultural generation gap was already forming before the 50s/60s but surely it must've been very difficult to really enjoy and internalize thanks to wars, depressions and the overall lack of material comforts that we take for granted today.

Ultimately this comes down to feeling like I no longer know if I can trust my own ears or evaluate music in any objective or remotely fair capacity whatsoever. It is difficult to say anything further about this without inviting whataboutisms.

I hate that this came out after the movie The Mask cause that means maybe these guys were trying to capitalize off of that cuban pete scene, which makes this hot jam slightly less hot

It seems safe to say that very little that could be called "rock" in the last decade and gained any kind of radio airplay has been worth listening to, and it's not because we're old.
