I never meant to pin this thread, but seeing it right on top is as good an excuse as any to relaunch it as Ned Braden goes to Norway for reasons that are still unclear

In Atlanta for a short delay, pop into a little pub to drink a beer, and I see this on tv:
Off to a good start! I'm gonna send that pic to N3gro League in hopes it turns into album art somehow.

Finally back in the room after a productive day. Figured out where I'll be working. Still not sure what I'll be doing for work. A quick recap of the day:
Got off the plane and was amazed by how not terrible the weather was. Sunny, not freezing. People jogging all over the damn place, Norway is the shit.
Saw a “Scandic” hotel right next to the airport, and would’ve taken a picture cept that my phone was dead. Looked like a real shithole. Luckily, girl at the rental car place told me that my hotel is “much nicer and close to the city.” Booyah.

My iPod shuffle was way smarter than me today, cause it played this automatically when I plugged in my phone to charge... and this is just the absolute best thing to listen to while cruising around European roundabouts and looking at signs you can't read:
Like, obviously it would've been better in Spain or Mexico, but totally fucking worked.

And a while later I decided this was even better to listen to...
At points I thought I was listening to a Norwegian Jonathan Richman or something. Probably entirely in my head, but whatever. "NORSK POP" is now my go-to for driving. Should've taken a better video, but didn't want to crash into something first day of rental car driving.
A sidenote:
I’m super glad that I make it a point to drive manual every chance I get. Word to the wise traveller – learn this shit if you don’t know it already. Recall 15 years or so I was a hero in Spain since nobody else in our group of 6 had any clue how to operate these things. Other countries still drive them though!

When I checked into the hotel the front desk people were amazing. Upgraded me to a bigass suite since I'm staying here so long, then helped me figure out how not to pay for parking. Just a little stroll, less than half a mile. And with weather like this!? Hope it holds out, but damn, I would actually prefer a nice walk to and from if it does.
Hotel is def a fancy, nice joint... so glad I got SATO travel to upgrade me. Feeling sorry for the suckers stuck at the little joint near the base.

Surrounding area is fantastic too. Running trail around a little lake. Bakery down the street. Could see hanging out here for the long haul.

Stray thoughts and observations:
This whole thing was just me volunteering for as much international relations stuff as possible, so I got sent to Norway on a two week exercise without much pre-briefing. I think it's going beyond well so far, but I foresee some long days.
listened to Scott Walker sing Amsterdam while on a 30 minute layover in Amsterdam. Aside from drugs or whatever, can’t think too many better ways to spend such a sit.
Oh shit!
I got the urge! The urge forSUrge!
Spooling down in the eve

you should get a super-old school cruiser bicycle to roll around those parts while you're in town.

^ This is an absolutely incredible idea. Unfortunately I get the feeling I'm gonna have a heck of a lot of 8am-8pm days

Only took me like seven years of occasionally getting annoyed at my weird travel thread being on top of the list to figure out how to make it not an "announcement."
Still a fun stroll thru memory lane. I want that NorskPop station right now.

Also, it's absolutely motherfucking insane how well this strategy paid off in retrospect.
