i find the the narrative being pushed that this Ft. Lauderdale shooting is "the turning point" to be very depressing. same shit everyone tried to say after Newtown. it's fine that the people who were actually affected by the tragedy have an emotional response and say things like "we will be the LAST school shooting", but the way the media then pushes that narrative is gross to me.
maybe it's okay that people are optimistic and seizing the moment to make their voice heard loudly, but to me it feels more like people want to delude themselves into believing this battle can be "won" overnight when realistically it will take decades to change America's gun culture. school shootings usually inspire copycats, so there will likely be another one relatively soon. sorry if this line of thinking is too cynical, but...
