That and the double horns at the end of the calls has been killing me.

Re: The Best Show on WFMU
Scharpling and Wurster appeared on the Seth Meyers Show or whatever. I notice Tom's lisp more since seeing this:
And then there was this. I don't care about baseball - and neither does Tom! - so I'm not completely aware of the significance of this, but pay attention to the 28-30 second mark.

Re: The Best Show on WFMU
Wish he didn't back track on the Harry Shearer attack from last week. Though I feel like he's starting to hit his stride again and the past 2 shows are getting back in Tom being more comfortable and the callers weird.

Will this Avalanche Bob guy be the next Stevie Blue or the next Captain Jack?

Haven't listened yet. Once upon a time, Tom made some pretty cruel comments about our man DeRo ("He looks like the doll from Trilogy of Terror" iirc), and almost immediately deleted them from the WFMU archive. I bet they didn't discuss that.

Re: The Best Show on WFMU
I'm listening to the 2-17-2004 show where Tom spends the last 40 minutes of the show eviscerating Steely Dan's catalog.
He let the worst defenders of the band get through on the phones.

Re: The Best Show on WFMU
I'd like to try to go through the archives from the beginning again. At some point in the late 2000s, I'd probably heard almost every show. It's always weird revisiting things like this when you suddenly recall every single word and where you were when you listened to it, probably that one and only time.
Anyway, so the wfmu.org popup player is pretty much the only way to hear the old shows, right?
By the way, the Sound Opinions interview was one of the better ones I've heard from this recent media blitz.

Re: The Best Show on WFMU
Last night's show Tom randomly interrupts caller named Emer to say he wants to interview anyone that has been a part of the production of a Papa Johns commercial and offers to send them a t-shirt in exchange.

Jack Black's call makes me think the show needs just a little more swearing.

Still have 40 minutes left in last night's show but the Wurster call was one of my favorites of this new iteration.

Re: The Best Show on WFMU
Catching up. I'm currently listening to the episode from October. Topic is "I was lied to".
I'm thinking that many of the Wurster calls kind of lose it conceptually now that the Best Show isn't on the radio. The "CB radio show" put down doesn't make any sense at all, and the idea that anyone might just have randomly tuned in is extremely far fetched. As evidenced by the homogeneous quality of the calls and the "NoDudeVember" episodes I see in my queue.
Still better than ever. Especially the interaction between Tom and his minions and the in studio guests.

Re: The Best Show on WFMU
Hahahahaha Tom described Dave Matthews Band as a combination of baseball and Jimmy Buffet because the only way to enjoy it is if "you're bombed out of your gorde".

Re: The Best Show on WFMU
We watched The Jerk last night for pizza/movie night. My dog's reaction to the film is evidence that S***head was ranked too low (#20) on the "Greatest Animals" list.
He was realy into it. I will try to get some pics soon.

Also, classic Tom - I can't tell if he's joking about writing the Back To the Future reboot with Sandler flunky Allen Covert.

Jimmy Buffet shouldn't be music for date rapists, but Jimmy Buffet fans are definitely into date rape.Ҩ wrote:Jimmy Buffet is..? That seems kind of harsh!
Speaking of Dave Matthews, does that band have a popular song called "Dancing Nancies?" Or is that just something I made up in my head?

Re: The Best Show on WFMU
I saw them on SNL when I was a kid and later that week I bought Under the Table and Dreaming at Target. I also had the album that came out after that.
I never got the beatdown I deserved for owning and enjoying those albums but unlike the Blues Traveler and Counting Crows CDs I had, I don't really regret those purchases.
