I was never a huge fan of these guys. I heard Spiderland when it was new and thought it was pretty interesting and heavy and there wasn't really anything like it yet, so it's not weird to me that this cult developed behind it.
But looking at this video by JDFF poster Lance Bangs and discovering that these guys were actually, like, children when they created this music is pretty mind boggling.  I think I'm a fan now.

Really good band. Their music is so brittle and alienated.

I can definitely appreciate how influential and "important" Spiderland was, but I really dug Tweez too.

    Stoked for this doc.

Full movie, with the album versions of the songs silenced, probably to kind of get around some of the copyright infringement issues:

    Does this work?

They have one other album of above-average Big Black worship, and a single or two, and that's it. But Spiderland is THE album by Slint.

I saw that movie at Music Box last year and it is pretty worthwhile; they dug up a lot of cool old footage for it.

Also listened to this album, last night! Ha! And my friend manages that store. I just might have her pick this up for me on some sweet employee discount.

That movie was sick, by the way, but I still think this very good record is quite overrated.

I just watched this movie and three days later it still has me in the weirdest mood.

I watched this doc again the other night. I am always touched and inspired by docs and interviews from the punk/diy scene but also get sad because it was a productive time for artists that seemed very connective and supportive of each other, and nowadays it seems that has changed (as lamented often by people like albini in particular).

It’s sad to me that bands that meant so much to me (90s chicago scene, fugazi, lungfish and so on) are just kind of relics of a time in history now. I mean, spiderland came out nearly 30 years ago. That album is a monolith. They come across as total weirdos and were embraced by their community to just be themselves.

Even albini in interviews is still fixated in his role, great at what he does and in his philosophy, but the modern age of E-waste music (in which I participate) has affected his relevance perhaps.

This is basically an out of touch boomer ish meandering post.
