Re: Neil deGrasse Tyson
ive heard good things about Cosmos but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. anyone else?
also, that video of the stanford prof finding out about the existence of gravitational waves, proving a theory he came up with decades ago, is pretty fantastic. SCIENCE!

Re: Neil deGrasse Tyson
15 minutes of one of the episodes was on the other night even though the guide on my TV said it was supposed to be the local news followed by How I Met Your Mother reruns. I enjoyed it and want to see more.
The Internet has such a boner for this guy, even (especially?) when he's just throwing out ideas that sound exciting and not actually doing any science. That plus whatever Seth MacFarland contributions are in this made me wary but maybe it's gonna be okay.

Re: Neil deGrasse Tyson
I watched the debut episode and didn't feel any MacFarlane vibe whatsoever. I think executive producer usually just means money man. I'm really pleased that an athesit celebrity used his clout to get a show like Cosmos (re)made. He seems to be a "good liberal" or whatever outside of the crude jokes in his TV shows.

Re: Neil deGrasse Tyson
Neil deGrasse Tyson is great. i'm sad that Michio Kaku hooked up with Fox News and went the lunatic route.
it's totally unfair to criticize Tyson for not being "enough of a scientist" (not accusing anyone of that, just riffing). his role is as a bridge the scientific community and popular science. he is bringing powerful ideas to people who would otherwise never engage with them.
i'm not personally into listening to him anymore and don't plan on watching Cosmos because pop science is a little bland to me, but it's good that it's out there for dummies plopping down on the couch on a random night to learn something.
