Re: Carly Rae Jepsen
Weather finally cleared up after 4 straight days of rain. I got a bunch of her jams lined up on my old iPod nano and ima bout to go run along the waterside in Oeiras, Portugal.

Yeah, I had to look it up, as I haven't seen that movie in a long, long time. Not long enough, mind you, because it's fucking unbearable! But I was like, "Wait a minute...haven't I heard these shits somewhere...?"

Re: Carly Rae Jepsen
Vice wrote:Meanwhile, retaining some of that 70s influence is "Everything He Needs," an old school devotional that, in 2019, should be unfashionable, but is in fact pure brilliance. “It's an interpolation of a Shelley Duvall song 'He Needs Me' from the 1980 Popeye movie,” Carly explains. “The boys who I was writing it with, CJ Baran and Ben Romans, even though we're all writers and musicians in our own right, we all share a common theme: we're all total musical theatre nerds. So we got into this conversation about how cool it would be if we could reinvent some of these songs from musicals into a way that people could digest it in pop culture. We fell upon the creepy beauty and simplicity of the hook from 'He Needs Me' and tried to funk it up.”
The problem came when trying to clear the sample with Disney, although Carly did call in the big g.u.n.s to help. “I went to Disneyland and I made a fake contract that said, 'He Needs Me'. Then I went in line with Mickey Mouse, made the guy sign it and then I sent it to all the Disney publishing people and was like, 'The big boss said it was okay!'” she laughs. “Somehow, a week before the album was meant to be turned in, we got approval.”

Re: Carly Rae Jepsen
“Murder weapons” is really the newer, subtler version of “gay guy who goes camping and it’s a big deal” and I owe all my pizzas to whomever invented it. So good.

Re: Carly Rae Jepsen
Whenever you write "murder weapon" here, it pops up as "murder weapon." It isn't quite as good as somebody referring to "French Montana" and having it posted as "French gay guy who camps and it's a big deal," but I've found moments of happy humour in it.
If the "what" was posted wrt something else, hopefully somebody else will step in to explain things I don't know, cause it's sleepy time for this guy.
Edit: lol proof of concept. First "murder weapon" was "g.u.n."

Every once in a while this song pops in my head and I think "Where the fuck is that song from again?" and my best guess is always Everybody Says I Love You so thanks to you and Ms. Jepsen for clearing this up finally.

Oh no, she just changed her answer and she was wrong! I want to debate her on this and then talk about Harry Nillsson and have her be impressed that I know anything despite the fact that I'm some lame ass military dipshit, and then like fall in love and go driving and out for pie and shit.

Re: Carly Rae Jepsen
In the end, I realized that this is the beginning of an era and I can store some songs away for projects to come. I’m equally excited for what I hope will be a Side B or Part 2 of the album, because there are songs that were just important as these ones.
That’s exciting. I was going to ask if we’re getting a Side B-type album for Dedicated.
Yeah, I feel like I should stop pretending. I have every intention of doing that and releasing a part two. I think that’s the fun with having this much time to record an album. It gives you a little bit of perspective on what should come first and what should come second. It was easier to narrow down the first part because I knew was going to get to share a lot more songs.
