I've been good. I started training a new employee today. For weeks my supervisor had been talking about him, "--- lives in town with his parents, he's worked for fed ex, etc" so I assumed he'd be some 20 year old kid.

I was surprised when a 45 year old walked up to me. He reminded me of Norman Bates a little. His dad was the former chief of police in town. I tested him to make sure he wasn't a postal inspector. Maybe he is, but he has a good back story.

Lived out in California. Laguna Beach, O.C. Had a nice house, wife and three kids. Got divorced, child support payments, he went to hell. Ended up moving back home to live with his parents. Became (or always was?) a super christian type.

He also told me he went to college, but like a lot of repressed nerd rich kid types, when he moved away to U of I he partied too hard and his grades slipped. He wanted to be a Veterinarian but couldn't make it with the GPA he had. So he was a Vet school dropout. He expressed a bit of resentment that he didn't just become an accountant like his college friends.

I have a distinct feeling he was or is a former or current alcoholic.

He also mentioned that he gets 30 percent of his pay from Fed Ex as a pension, so he could try and live off of that if need be, as well as live off of his faith in God.

Just happy he didn't ask me if i believed in god

Not a whole lot of new stuff, or rock/vocal/pop oriented stuff tbh. I have no idea what the state of indie rock is like in 2013.

But what I've been listening to lately on my ipod

    Songs of the Humpback Whale
    Brian Eno: Lux, Apollo
Some Joni Mitchell Live BBC bootleg
checking out these new age artists: Patrick Bernard, Ashana (not sure about how i feel about her yet)
Steve Roach : A Deeper Silence
Tim Hecker : Harmony in Ultraviolet

and some podcasts that i find interesting

Most bands/listeners have moved on. Hardly any 'indie rock' being released.

Is your favorite album still Funhouse?

Also, on my walk through the city the other day I went past a FedEx truck that wreaked of marijuana. I remember reading in some thread that you don't smoke anymore. But, I still thought of you.

Funhouse is fucking awesome. Probably one of the best rock records, if not the best on my list!

Do I listen to it often? No, lol, but that doesn't mean it doesn't kick ass.

Iggy Pop used his singing to go deep into the unconscious and brought out the pain, terror and confusion most other singers were afraid and still are afraid to confront on stage. On that album he was fucking raw as can be.

Yeah, I don't smoke weed and don't drink anymore. It's been a year maybe? I occasionally smoke a tobacco pipe though.

The Seer has been getting a lot of play these past few days. Kind of insane that a bunch of 50 year olds could release the best album of their career, but that's the modern world for ya.

i really liked the Godspeed album when I listened to it, but don't own it. I'll give the Seer a listen, thanks.

I usually will give indie rock music a try when there is substance behind the lyrics, like Josh Ritter type stuff. Stuff from the heart that has less posturing. Since that has become increasingly harder to find I just stopped digging for the most part.

and also, drony stuff. the seer sounds drony.

HOLY SHIT YOU HAVE TO GO.

$25 to get in, you could stay for 24 hours if you wanted.

The wet sauna is kinda gay though. I didnt feel uncomfortable getting naked with a bunch of guys but some of them were checking me out obviously. Whatever. The best part is all of the steam rooms.

The fire room that's 180 degrees, the bul gama room. I am so relaxed. The place is fucking crazy, like a disneyland for healing. You can take a nap upstairs in the "meditation room" which is just a big room with like 200 lazy boys reclined, tons of asians and euros just sacking out.

Or you can walk into the movie room and watch a movie. They were showing Garfield Two there!

    Awesome place.

seriously if you were hard up and needed a place to stay for the night you could stay there for 25 bucks. it's 24 hours, you could crash in the meditation room.

    awesome place.

Dont worry, you believe in other kooky stuff. Judging from what I've seen, christians aren't too offended as long as you believe in something supernatural.
