    over the years i have played loads of variations on the queen

    i would say, if i thought you were an amateur i would go with kings gambit and try to destroy you on that side with an early knight push
    if i thought you were good, a clean queens gambit and slow evolution
    if i thought you were gonna kill me i would probably just play a queen opening with no gambit

    I typically play the Spanish opening for two reasons. 1. I think it is the most common opening and has the most potential for your opponents to play along. 2. In my opinion it leads to more complex games. Gambits are typically very aggressive which is why I don’t play them. I like a long complex game with very few trade offs. My competitive days are over, I’m more concerned with creating a beautiful looking board then beating my opponent in less than 10.
