Re: Food you can't stomach
Mustard is the best condiment in the world IMO but Yancy I feel your pain on frustration with people fucking up your food order. One of my only true pet peeves in life. I'd wanna up and murder anybody who put ketchup on my dog after being told not to. Or if they did it in Chicago where that is not and should not be the norm.

Re: Food you can't stomach
my aunt made a ground beef and and a chicken casserole last night as a throwback to the 50s and 60s Americana cuisine they used to eat growing up and it was like one giant assault of Campbell's canned products down my gullet.
it was pretty tasty and i was going hard on the margarita blender anyway but just the idea of rich, bland, soupy casseroles from the 50s was throwing off my enjoyment of it.

Re: Food you can't stomach
I literally can't stomach apples because I'm allergic too them. Fucking sucks.
It used to just make my gums hurt but I tried one about 5 years ago and my throat swelled up and I had to go to hospital.
Meanwhile, my love hate relationship with fennel has tipped firmly into the hate camp.

We're almost to the time of year when honeycrisps drop below $2.99 a pound, so that'll be nice too.

Shit. The gum part happens to me right now. I've read up on it and it seems to be related to a birch allergy in the ragweed family, but there aren't birch trees around here so everything else is copacetic. Get that gum feeling w/ peaches and (sometimes) avocados and plums. Apples have always made me fart stupendously.

If you don't like pork chops, you're either vegetarian, buying the wrong kind of pork chops, or cooking them wrong. Super versatile piece of hog.

Can't speak to Bruegel's affliction, but a cooked apple or peach doesn't irritate my gums. Only raw.

cooked apples and juice both fine. some other fruits have started to cause gum irritation. i get asthma-like reactions to some nuts too.reuben wrote:Can you eat apple pies or do all forms of apple harm you?

Re: Food you can't stomach
my hunch is that 90% of the pork chops i've eaten in my life have not been done well. i've had good pork chops. i've not had consistently delicious pork chops to understand the reverence they seem to hold as a go-to menu item for people to order at restaurants.
my gf made kimchi pork chops the other day that were great.
next meat item of questionable pedestal status: the turkey leg at events/fairs/whatnot. that thing is never good.

Re: Food you can't stomach
Turkey is an overrated meat in all aspects. Ground turkey is some terrible shit; turkey legs are like a chicken leg on steroids. I'm not really fan of anything described as "on steroids."

Re: Food you can't stomach
Like Michael K., I can't sit by idly while the wonderful and versatile pork chop is so unfairly maligned. I suspect the OP has simply had to endure overcooked, dry, oven-baked specimens. Michael K's right; take an enameled saute pan, get a nice thick center cut (bone in) chop, season liberally with sea salt and cracked fresh black pepper, saute some garlic and onions, brown the chop on both sides over high heat and then braise covered under medium-low heat for 15-20 minutes in a mixture of chicken broth and white wine or dry vermouth. Plate the chop in a warm oven and reduce the sauce, finish with a tablespoon of dijon or country mustard (unless you're Yancy), a little unsalted butter mix in some chopped fresh herbs (like thyme, tarragon or chives).
