Maddux's brother, who is now the Cardinals pitching coach, looks like his evil mustachioed doppleganger. It is hilarious.

Re: let's baseball
RIP to Cubs championship core. Rizzo, Bryant and Baez all gone. With all that talent to have been a fart in the wind with one World Series appearance is disappointing. I realize winning a WS is extremely hard and lots of teams would love to have the success the Cubs enjoyed recently. But damn, that rebuild came up fast!
Anyway, going to the White Sox game tonight. It’s Elvis Night and fireworks night!

Lance Lynn got tossed from the game because the ump asked to check his belt when he was already in the dugout. Lance didn’t like that inconvenience so he took his belt off and threw it at the ump.

The world we live in now you can't go shopping downtown without being beaten by gangs of thugs and you can't even go to a baseball game without a a decent chance of being killed:

So fucked up and sad.
I wouldn't bring my family to a ball game if you paid me $250.00 and bought my tickets for me.

Yea you would, lol.
It’s a tragedy for sure and I don’t mean to downplay that part of it at all. However, the fact remains that Sox park is right off the highway and is in a relatively nice neighborhood, I lived in Bridgeport for 10 years and used to walk around that area all the time with no problems. I don’t have to go into detail about the Cubs, you’re band Creepy D played the Metro all the time, right? So you can spare us the theatrics.
They were in Hermosa, which is not a bad area but not a great one either and it straddles the west side. Based on the story I imagine they went there to drop off or visit family before going home and we’re just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Sox playoff tickets went in like 5 minutes this afternoon. I got 500-level seats for the ALCS but it is a TBD game since the Sox have to get out of the ALDS and then go to game 6.

Go Sox, for sure. Y'all are the A's of Chicagoland. We also have La Russa's stupid ass in common. I'll be rooting for you.
A's blew it this year, but I went to a few fun games.

Barry Bonds not getting into the Hall of Fame is ridiculous. Holier than thou sportswriters denying him entry is so offensive to me.
Ortiz was a great player but he wasn’t Bonds.

Re: let's baseball
I feel that way about Sammy Sosa. He was basically a living super hero for me. Some of the most memorable moments of my childhood were going to see him play at Wrigley Field. Recognizing/honoring the impact that he had on an entire generation of baseball fans does not necessarily condone "cheating." And besides, the entire sport was tainted with PEDs during those years anyway.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I hope they resolve the lockout. I don’t follow baseball, but I like having it around in the summer. I was also rooting for the Sox to have a good season, last year was promising.

My thoughts exactly. I don’t have time to follow sports, but I like when baseball is around and am generally jazzed about a young and promising Sox outfit.
In another baseball related news, there was an unauthorized Bash Brothers documentary/biopic thing by the lonely island and I completely forgot it existed. I’m looking forward to watching it.

It's a musical, fwiw. It's both barely tolerable and wonderful at the same time.

I don’t know if it’s the perpetual state of fear and panic that I live in or the random moments in the day where I can’t stop crying but something about stupid baseball coming back is giving me such joy today that I can’t help but smile and be really excited.

I think the Chicago White Sox should consider parting ways with Tony LaRussa at the all star break.

This is like my favorite post of the year.
I hate that I am not watching sports right now cause I think I’m missing some unparalleled Ruthian greatness stuff with this Shohei Ohtani guy.

Maybe I'd heard he had cancer at some point but I was surprised to hear that Lin Brehmer just died.
I was expecting reporting that talked about him as a Chicago radio legend but they barely even mentioned that, instead he was just a CUBS SUPERFAN and all the story was about him hosting baseball parties and shit.
Anyway, this Bud's for you Lin

Re: let's baseball
That sucks. I actually listened to the radio tribute today on XRT on my drive. They were talking about him and playing clips of his before playing some of his favorite music. I did not realize he was the guy who introduced me to The Godfather’s song Work, School, Birth, Death, which I would call Replacements adjacent.
When I say introduced I mean to say I never met the guy! But I think that’s the weird thing about radio, when you’re alone in your car, or wherever, it feels as if it’s you and them. Especially with his Lins Bin segments where he spoke, close mic, intimate style, about life and it’s various trials and tribulations. But the segments would always end with a song that was meant to be the period at the end of the sentence, mic drop. Whether it was uplifting, snarky, or just plain hilarious, the intimacy was always there. They played one clip in particular that was hard to stomach… ‘It’s Great To Be Alive.’ Ouch XRT, that was an unexpected gut punch.
But, to end my day they played him retelling his only meeting with Kieth Richards. It’s a fine story, he meets him and Clapton and his friends don’t believe him but later he gets Keith to go into their hotel room as proof. The story ends and the needle drops on Can’t You Hear Me Knockin’
Thanks for all the mornings, man. RIP

Not sure if you’re watching the WBC but the games have been alright. Last night though, USA vs Venezuela was fucking great. US took the lead, lost the lead and then Trea Turner hit a grand slam in the 8th that won it for the US 9-7.
Fun game and the players were very into it. US play Cuba in the semifinal tonight. Several Sox players involved so I’ll check it out.

Will they release a Moneyball Part 2 that focuses on how the Oakland A’s never actually won anything or achieved sustainable success during this phase and eventually relocated to Las Vegas?

Maybe as a Succession-style show? The narrative arc of the Moneyball movie was always pretty far from the realities of the business of baseball. A story about what's happened to the As over the last 20 years would have to be a critical look at the way ownership destroys teams and fanbases for profit.
