I'm not as familiar with his guy as everyone else here seems to be. But yeah, I think that's him. Especially because, off to the side of this picture or even written across that white strip at the bottom of the photo, is his name (either I failed to get this in the photo or the exposure is so bad that it's unreadable).

This picture is on the wall behind the register at a greasy spoon I go to a couple times a month. It is not a Rick Bayless restaurant.

It is also not a Papa John pizza franchise so why is Papa John in the photo with him and why is it hanging up on the wall in a random breakfast restaurant?

I have no idea who Rick Bayless or Carlos Trotter are. And I've only heard the Bourdain dude's name. How, if at all, strange are these facts about me? I'm so ignorant that I don't even know.

Well they are all famous chefs. Trotter and Bayless are famous Chicago chefs. Bayless has a PBS show and I believe Trotter had a cooking school for many years. Bourdain was probably one of the most famous chefs of all time. He wrote a few famous books in the early-mid point of his career that put him on the map. The books read like Lester Bangs writing about food which is probably why his star rose so quickly. A punk amongst all the white table cloths if that makes sense.

It is weird that you’ve heard of none of them but nobody should hold that against you. Personally I was getting into cooking and brewing in the early 00’s so I had a reason to discover Bourdain. Bayless I know from his PBS shows. Trotter im the least familiar with other then his history in the city.

I thought Skip was the only Bayless of note. Wild.

I’d consider Anthony Bourdain one of my non-family heroes and developed a real interest in travel, culture and food when I started watching his show.

If I hadn't been assigned to monitor media mentions of the NBA for a brief time at an old job I never would have heard of this Skip fellow.

But yeah, Trotter and Bayless have enourmous footprints in Chicago's culinary scene, but it's kinda like I wouldn't begrudge someone who's never heard of Steve Albini?
