He was so good at saying a word or phrase, and then having his face (and delivery) make the reaction we were all making in our own heads (the "wait, what?" reaction).
One of my all time favorite gags was when he nailed this in Dirty Work:
"Nah nah, I uh... have to go... lift weights. What?"
