Kinda missed how big a deal Mac Miller was apparently.

Re: Dead Thread
I was never a Mac Miller fan, but obviously this is super sad and fucked up. On a related note, it is sad that Ariana Grande keeps having tragic and fucked up shit happen to her over the last few years, from the attack at her Manchester concert to her ex-boyfriend overdosing.

Vaguely remember someone on SOMB mk II (JennyPenny?) was able to book Buzzcocks to play a free show at University of Wisconsin. It may have taken place in a cafeteria iirc

Re: Dead Thread
The Buzzcocks wrote the best punk singles out of those early British bands. Petes voice had a warble to it that came of as a little psychedelic. Like Wire, they had been into Eno and the early Pink Floyd and you can hear it in some of their vocal melodies. I think I heard my first bizzcocks song through a car commercial. Maybe Chevy or Ford? On the positive side of things I liked the song that I heard and ended up buying a british punk comp with The Buzzcocks, The Damned, the clash, Sex Pistols, and a few others. Before this time period I was sure that it couldn’t get much better then Dammit by Blink 182. So that marketing dude who thought it would be a good idea to put ‘What Do I Get?’ in that car commercial changed my trajectory. That marketing dude passed away earlier this week and I figured I’d eulogize him. Pete Shelley too.

I had no idea who this was but literally two days ago I bought a CD of Erik Satie music at Goodwill for a dollar that this guy did. I didn't care who the performer was but was looking forward to hearing it.
Cashier asked me if I'd checked the case to make sure the disc was in there. I'd done that with a couple other ones I'd picked out so I just reflexively said yes. Got home and there was no disc in it after all.

Re: Dead Thread
It is hard to think of something as life affirming as when I’m in the mood to listen to Spirit of Eden or Laughing Stock and every fucking sound on those albums completely remove me from wherever I am at that moment. I only exist within those pieces of music from the start and I can’t think of many albums that do this literally every time I listen.

Well said. Those Talk Talk records and - imo, especially - his self titled record are this through and through. My favorite band I've never told anyone about because I can't imagine listening to this music with other people or ruining it by talking about it. I kinda anxiously awaited the Great Mark Hollis Return and really wish it had happened but am also sorta relieved it didn't.

I never took the time to get into Talk Talk because I suck, but that Nick post has piqued my interest. Thanks.

Re: Dead Thread
Outpouring of love for Keith Flynt today has been 10x what I thought it would be.
I thought everyone hated this guy now for different reasons, this is not the case’
I do wish I could relive the day I bought Fat of the Land, what a time to be alive and feeling excited about shit

That moment in time (dd/mm/yyyy)-Zone that feels o right to you, you know what I mean, well that’s probably someone else’s moment they really just stopped feelin it, you know what I mean?
I love Prodigy but boy what a cliff to fall out of, life comes at you fast
Listened to Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock late night this week, these are albums I still need to hear more than like six times or whatever, this is just like

Re: Dead Thread
I always thought Keith got a bad rap too. His late 90s image was probably created by record co execs because if you look at the video for Out of Space he’s basically a hippie. This is my favorite version of the prodigy and probably my favorite era of music video making. Keith!!!!! You were a good dancer!!RIP

Scott Walker.
Tough coming so soon after Hollis. Maybe more than than perhaps anyone else, they proved the permeability between pop and avant-garde music. Rest in peace.
