Re: Lou Reed
Pete Quaife, TJenz, and probably no one else will remember a television program called Night Music, youtubed above. It was hosted by a fellow who I knew from Letterman's band called David Sanborn. It was on real late at night on Sunday in the 1980s, so as a teenager, I was rarely awake to see it. Once or twice at lunch, I heard something about who was on last night, and I went, like, oh man that was on tv and I missed it. Cuz you know, back then, we couldn't just look at live footage Sun Ra or Leonard Cohen or Joe Walsh whenever we felt like it. Weird that there was once a weekly live music show that featured lineups like
week in and week out on Channel 7 for a year or two.
Show 213
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Toots Thielemans
Charlie Haden & his Liberation Orchestra
Nick Cave & Mick Harvey
Annabouboula
Sister Carol
Show 214
Graham Parker
NRBQ
Abbey Lincoln
Phil Woods
Shabazz and His D.J.
C.E. Just
Steve Turre and His Sea Shells
Show 215
Bob Weir
Rob Wasserman
Warren Zevon
Artis the Spoonman
John Lurie and Nana Vasconcelos
Bongwater
Screamin' Jay Hawkins
Modern Jazz Quartet

Re: Lou Reed
OH and I should mention, the reason I got off on this tangent in the first place.
The "disappear and fly fly away" line on the studio recording of Dirty Blvd is one of the great moments in rock, imhfo.

Re: Lou Reed
Let's see there was 2, 5. 7, 9, 11, 32, and 44. At some point, 44 went Spanish, and around that time we got 60 and 66 which showed like Gilligan's Island type shit, and I think another Spanish station.
In like 1983 cable came to town, and we had 36, including the above, and ESPN, MTV, A&E, WTBS, etc.
USA was a fucking hell of a network back then.

I definitely saw that episode, RHCP definitely played "Subway to Venus," and it was probably my first exposure to the band. Just imagine the direction my life could've gone if I hadn't stayed up past my bedtime that night.Ted Falconi wrote:Pete Quaife, TJenz, and probably no one else will remember a television program called Night Music, youtubed above.

Vaguely. That Sanborn chap was the same one who ruined Bowie's Young Americans album with his awful saxophone.Ted Falconi wrote:Pete Quaife, TJenz, and probably no one else will remember a television program called Night Music, youtubed above. I was recently digging through some old VHS tapes and found the episode where The Residents and Conway Twitty played together. So, that really happened. For the longest time I thought I had dreamt it.

Re: Lou Reed
this really belongs in the silly alternative lyrics you sing over popular songs thread but I just realised I've been singing:
Viscous
I hit you with my powder
I do it every hour
Oh, Baby, I'm so viscous
for about a decade now
