Sunn O))) really delivers the goods on this. They sound like the perfect Scott Walker backing band.

Yea, this is fantastic.

I've had a really bad fever for the past couple days, which has included a non-stop headache.  Basically feel like total garbage over here.

So naturally I ended up jamming Robert Irving III's Midnight Dream album five times in a row...here are both versions of the cover art:



Robert Irving III played synths on '80s Miles Davis albums that no one likes but are pretty great, actually.  I also went to high school with his son, who is now some underground hip hop guy named Jeremiah Jae who has done stuff with Flying Lotus, I guess.

This album kind of sounds like the Ryuichi Sakamoto songs that Undo posted yesterday.

A guy in the office is playing August and Everything After right now and I'm enjoying it a lot. Fondly remembering the big summer of Mario 64/Counting Crows from my young adolescent years.

Ned Braden there is no way you are enjoying that album. Counting Crows are a band for chunky girls who love "sweater weather" not a real American hero such as yourself.

Come on Nick, even you must enjoy bullshit nostalgia sometimes. As I remember capturing all those stars and beating that stupid penguin on the difficult level slide race, it is impossible not to smile remembering the simpler times.

And I know nearly nothing about elite electronic music, but if I had to make a guess, Aphex Twin certainly counts.

Pretty sure I've heard Counting Crows at every Salvation Army location that I've visited, which makes sense because those are places where you can purchase the entire Counting Crows discography on CD for under five dollars.

I like the "been hangin' around this town so long" (?) song.

That lead singer was on Howard Stern a bunch because he is a famous gash hound.

I'm really fucking sick and feel like I got ran over by a bus. I got like two hours of sleep last night. But instead of being a pussy about it and sitting in bed I am about to make some killer tacos while bumping Off the Wall.

I went to an official pre-leak listening party in a record shop for Syro. Love it.

Listened to half of Syro yesterday, got busy, forgot to return to it. I can't tell if it's mostly underwhelming, or if I just don't need another Aphex Twin record in my life at this point.

He does what he does pretty good on this record but it isn't different enough from what he's done in the past to really catch my ear. Although the first half was like a walk down memory lane with all those queasy, melancholic, nostalgic chords/sounds. I will definitely give it a bunch more listens which i'm sure will change my opinion. There is just so much to unpack with this record that one listen certainly isn't enough... unless its just not your thing.
