Re: THE 2020 US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Nobody is saying that there is a magical fix, but I think you should probably reflect on the fact that this is basically the same language that conservatives use against Greta. I really think you should reflect upon the political work that your pessimistic realism is doing. If it is coming from a personal place of depression, than I am sorry and we can just end this here because that sucks and I hope you feel better. But if it is coming from your honest analysis of the world, you should work to change that because it is extremely counter-intuitive.jesus jones wrote:relax little whippersnapper, i'm saying this is gonna be a bloodbath and we're in for a brutal time. and whether or not trump loses, there isn't gonna be some magical fix.
And yes, I am comparing myself to Greta directly. That is what everyone should be taking from this post, I think.

Chapo put up their Bernie interview today. I adore this man. He’d be an incredible president.

I haven't listened yet. I was so so upset to hear the news the other day about him being hospitalized. I'm glad everything went well with his stents and that he is going to be back on the stump kicking motherfucking ass very soon.

Re: THE 2020 US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Can the Democratic Party win some seats in this election?
Because I'm just saying, when is that ever going to happen if it doesn't really soon?
edit: this was supposed to be about the Senate but I forgot to include that for some reason

Re: THE 2020 US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
WP and I got off topic in the Right Wing Non-Savages thread. Trying to bring it over here:
Ted Falconi wrote:Check this out though
Obama 2008 (2012):
Popular vote 69,498,516 (65,915,795)
Percentage 52.9% (51.1%)
Clinton 2016:
Popular vote 65,853,514
Percentage 48.2%
That's not Democrats flipping to Republicans, that's Democrats not voting at all.

My Twitter timeline seems to suggest that even though Bernie had a good debate and is picking up 3 endorsements today we really ought to be taking Mayor Pete more serious.

My Twitter timeline is just people celebrating the fact that the custodians are still busy wiping the blood off the stage after Bernie's debate performance.

Somebody convince me I don´t need to be terrified of this article:
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/04/upshot/one-year-from-election-trump-trails-biden-but-leads-warren-in-battlegrounds.html
That and "women candidates not likeable" have got me so fucking depressed.
We´re the world the wicked world… we know what we´re doing, we´re marching to hell.
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/04/upshot/one-year-from-election-trump-trails-biden-but-leads-warren-in-battlegrounds.html
The Times/Siena results and other data suggest that the president’s advantage in the Electoral College relative to the nation as a whole remains intact or has even grown since 2016, raising the possibility that the Republicans could — for the third time in the past six elections — win the presidency while losing the popular vote.

Re: THE 2020 US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
I don't understand why the Democratic Party continually allows the minority opposition in the country to determine (rig) the political playing field. It's totally absurd and has been going on for literally my entire life. Until this Party actually embraces institutional reform measures, including the expansion of the Voting Rights Act (which the House actually did pass about a year ago), they are going to be forever fucked. In the long-term, they are going to have to accept a total reconfiguration of the party's decision-making structures and apparatus. Getting rid of superdelegates is a positive start, but they are going to have to continue to democratize the Party itself.
We aren't going to be able to successfully fight for a more progressive and inclusive society without the backing of a mass party of the working class, which is what the Democratic Party might hopefully be transformed into within the next few decades...

Re: THE 2020 US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will.
But this really does lay bare that the Democratic Party's primary objective is just to hope that a charismatic figure in the mold of JFK or Obama emerges from within their ranks. It does not have to be this way! The Party can be organized in other ways and can engage the electorate in a more active and participatory manner, but that runs counter to the career interests of the professionalized elites (and their wealthy donor class) that currently runs the Democratic Party. This is why fights within the Party are so important. It isn't about scoring points and "dunking on the libs," it is about re-shaping the Party, embracing its activist base, and establishing deeper ties within poor, working class, and downwardly mobile socio-economic communities. It is going to take time and a lot more fighting, but I have a lot of faith in the generation currently in high school and college who seem to really get this shit.

I must be missing why John Kerry endorsing Biden is a big deal. He’s a fucking loser that ran a horrible campaign against W.
Also, fuck HRC going on Howard stern and criticizing Bernie like it was his fault she didn’t win. I can’t believe despite this hell we are living in that I’m still so satisfied she did not win.

I feel this almost exactly. I'd be happier - or at least in less despair - if she had, but I'm pretty happy that she didn't get that satisfaction.
