Re: Black history month
Just realized that i have no idea who shot MLK or why they did it.
I could look it up but im supposed to be studying immunology.
Been listening to a lot of King Tubby this week, hes really good at reggae! Too bad he got shot too.
Boarding from my ipod is addicting. Watched porn in the stall here a few days ago, which was either the best or the worst moment of my week so far. The game will never be the same after this.

Re: Black history month
I'm probably going to listen to some black music to celebrate, like Stevie Nicks or something.

Read this last summer. Great shit.
Almost done with my Coltrane bio and it's also great shit. Focuses a lot on "the music," to the point where there's a bunch of transcriptions of his solos. Even one from Interstellar Space.
Been tryin' to live every month like it's Black History Month, though, personally. It's a must in a city like this. Especially if you are really into music and want to appreciate what's happening here.

Re: Black history month
Yeah, truthfully I have been catching myself sounding/thinking like a Deej ripoff more than ever as of late.
I'd say that to an extent I do strive to operate as "a better Deej" by channeling these attitudes into making better, more soulful music. As opposed to simply pretending like I deserve quantifiable recognition for "discovering" artists that have obviously already been discovered by actual black people.
Fact is, though, that it's caucasian-dominated scenes that destroyed my perception of good local music. Too much shitty hardcore and "seapunk" (?) and noise and "garage rock." That's all just some total ickiness.
Also, I've been obsessed with calamari lately and the tastiest stuff I've found is down south. Then I tried some in Lakeview and it was just crushingly disappointing. So there's that.

I first read Paves's post as if he was writing a Coltrane bio. That was a real moment.

Something involving dying your hair green and not being a mermaid. It's been a thing for a while but when I heard about it my "What the fuck is this?" was definitely a rhetorical question.zappo wrote:Paves wrote:"seapunk"

It's all about smelling, looking, sounding, and thinking like shit. All at the same time! Would say that it is the antithesis of "my bag."
