I've been meaning to come back to this post, but kept putting it off.

This was one of my favorite goals from last season (and I think it may have been Alexis last with the club as well). The perfect weight on that pass from Wilshere is wonderful. I remember watching it live and I was having a horrible day and watching that got me out of my seat and brought a smile to my face.

Obviously, Wilshere's game isn't really as a deep lying playmaker (regista), but I think he has the attributes to remold himself into this kind of player if he dedicates himself to making that change. I really hope that he takes advantage of his fresh start away from the Emirates.

During Belgium-England yesterday I sat down at a random table at the bar and eventually got to talking with some young nursing students next to me. They were big chillers and the conversation was far more interesting than anything going on in the game. One of the girls was incredibly cute and super my type. She was also from SF and French-American (all the rest of her family have moved back to France). She studied at McGill and speaks Quebecois. In the past I would have looked at her and thought "way out of my league", but with new skinny, confident Jasp running his mouth, she seemed fucking into me. She was very cute and touchy at the table and then invited me on a hike with her and her friends! She bought me an English muffin breakfast sandwich without telling me because I said I had never eaten at that bar before. It was spontaneous as fuck, very sweet and adorable.

Her friends were her BFF from back home and that girls' boyfriend. They were pretty cool as well. Me and the boyfriend had a good amount in common and were able to chat the whole time when they ran ahead to catch up. We went on an amazing hike in the Columbia Gorge on the Washington state side of the river. They all seemed to like me. I was wearing Vans and tight jeans because this was not in the cards when I left the house that morning. I tore off some skin on my left foot, but it was worth it.

Exchanged numbers with this lady and suggested we watch more World Cup games tomorrow. Even if we just become friends/nothing, it's great to be able to be friendly and spontaneously make these kinds of connections, especially in a world where so many of these interactions are digitized.

Hell yeah! I'm glad that your summer/revenge bod is giving you the confidence to pursue this kind of thing and I am heartened that we live in a world where these kinds of spontaneous interactions still do occur.

Today, I was on a walk when I saw some dude wearing a white Inter jersey standing underneath the Chicago theater marquee on State street. I got his attention by pointing to my own shirt, near where the badge would sit, and giving him a thumbs up. My acknowledgement made him really excited and we did a little fist bump while both smiling like idiots.

It might not be a cute French-American girl, but this will have to do for me.

I'm thinking about getting an Inter-related tattoo on my forearm soon.

Haha, she just preemptively texted me that she has a boyfriend. Would not have guessed by the way she was acting! Must be one of those "very comfortable with her male friends" chicks.

Much appreciated that she chose to clarify. She's still cool though and I'll probably watch games with her friends. Need friends. Back to the football!

I wish British women were socialised to enjoy watching sports. Kind of ironic coming from someone who spent most of his life not watching sports, but yeah. Not that common in my experience sweeping generalisation alert

Watching Denmark felt like watching another version of Greece so I’m glad they’re out.

Spain might have won the shoot out if they could have executed 25 passes in the box before shooting. Another team I’m glad is going home.

This truly would be the best World Cup if England makes the final.

Denmark, Germany, and Serbia, all countries where I have some ethnic roots, are now out of the tournament.

I'm rooting for these English lads and believe that the cup is, ahem, coming home.

I really don't know who to root for, at this point, but I know that I'm rooting against Brazil! In spite of some genuine and desperate heartbreak, I've so far loved this Cup.

I like Brazil but always root against them because they're winners. They don't deserve bandwagoners. Plus Neymar has been an indefensible dipshit this WC.

Other than England who I have a soft spot for, Uruguay are the team I like (and have for a few rounds). Without Cavani they will be in trouble though.

I know that whoever gets through is essentially a lamb to the slaughter but the fact that either England, Sweden, Russia or Croatia will be in the final is so surreal that even if we're eliminated on Saturday I'm excited on general principle
