God damn. If I ever decide to just blow it up and start over, these are the 40 albums I'm using to start and end my record collection.

Does Dusted Magazine mostly focus on music made by dudes that blow into instruments? I have enjoyed their writing for years but this is some shit I cannot get into.

It does seem like they've become even more niche-oriented since they moved over to Tumblr and stopped posting three reviews per day, but they've always reviewed more jazz than other sites.
Most of the jazz reviews are written by some guy named Derek Taylor, and on the front page currently he has more entries than anyone else. The other contributors mostly write about other things. I would guess that more reissues in that genre get reviewed than in any other, too, which is some shit that I am pretty into, although I certainly do share your disinterest in new releases by trumpeters and saxophonists.
I still prefer the Dusted take on recent noteworthy music releases to all other sites.

I'd like to see their site analytics since they've gone even more extreme in their niche.

I've long since forgotten almost all of the board and blog deep writing I used to devour back in this era when it seemed so fresh and central to the things I thought and felt, but I still read these Freaky Trigger articles and the history and context is always really worthwhile without ever being too arch or clever. This is seriously great music writing (and also writing about music).
The song itself is very very of-that-era, "dated" without the negative connotation that word has.

I'm looking for an article I read several years ago about medieval drone music (for lack of a better word).
About how people would get together in cathedrals or other such huge rooms and chant and/or play instruments that produced music and experiences that we would recognize or label today as "drone." This was not done for the purpose of liturgy/worship/religious ceremony, which was probably the most surprising thing about it. There was a good deal of music terminology in the article describing things I enjoy listening to but don't understand as a layperson.
Author may have made comparisons between this music and Sunn o))), Berghain-esque techno, etc. I really don't remember if this was music from 500 years ago or 1000 years ago or even more. I saw it linked to on a message board somewhere. I really don't remember much more about this but I think I'd know the article if I saw it.

This was it but beyond the first few paragraphs, it's really not the focus of the piece. I think my memory really embellished what this was about.

I am more concerned by how they preferred Blonde to Channel Orange. I think the Winehouse thing can be explained by the fact that they are a British publication.
