OK. I'm at like a third through and a pretty big thing happened that's changed the energy of the whole show. Up until this point it kept raising the ceiling but now everyone's being full on Shinji and it's left me wondering if it can right itself. I'll stick with it for now.
That last season of Breaking Bad was a fairly joyless experience in my opinion.

it's been awhile since I went through it, but i don't recall if the ceiling kept getting lifted in terms of world building and what the stakes were, or if I simply hung with it through the end simply because you keep walking to get out of the forest.Duff... wrote:undo wrote:I think I might have lied, it's been so long since I watched it that thinking about it now, I'm not really sure if I'm qualified to answer. it did leave a favorable impression in my brain, so i'd advise to keep going. i recall not having anything else at the time with short episodes like GL did, so the churn was quick & easy.

Re: Television Discussion Thread
I read all the GoT books a few years ago and can't recall all the details but I feel like the show has complete disregard for little girls and wants them raped, beaten or burned alive as often as possible. And while battles against armies of undead and dragons scorching dozens of people is way entertaining I don't know if I have the stomach for the bulk of this show any longer.

Depressing to think Hannibal is just going to be dropped and no one seems to plan on picking it up. One of the most compelling and beautifully shot shows I've seen in years. Probably dozens of douche bags writing the next The Goldbergs and even more network exec douche bags looking to pilot shit like that instead.

been watching a lot of 70s/80s Public Information films recently. Some of them are terrifying, like this "Stranger Danger" one from '71:
I was particularly disturbed by the guy whose face goes "awful" at 8:34

loved the animation in this one. never stopped me playing on frozen ponds though..
kind of ironic that lots of the narrators of these have now been exposed as paedophiles (Rolf Harris in this case)

Watching The Wire and we finally got to the episode.
I had to pause the DVD and actually explain to my gf why I was in awe. That's probably something I should keep to myself but here we are.

Re: Television Discussion Thread
That happened to me as well like two months ago! I was watching it on my laptop with my girlfriend and I had to literally fight the compulsion to explain myself. Telling her that I have been an active member of an online messageboard with a bunch of dudes I have never met and that are about 10 years older than me on average seemed like a thing I should keep to myself for some reason...

Ash vs. The Evil Dead is so much fun to watch. Only 30 minute episodes that are a combo of over the top gore, comedy and moving an insane story line along.
