I went into a Barnes & Noble for the first time in like three years the other day. They started selling vinyl records and it was all the music that I listen to. I'm sure the same thing is at Urban Outfitters or something too.

I don't know if people are actually buying and listening to those records but if they are then I'm glad!

Yea I am all for stores pushing physical music formats and helping artists get exposure. I wish Borders was still around to do that. I loved that store!

Probably the weakest LP from that era, but side two is tremendous.

Can you define what you mean by era? I ask because other than their first album this is the only King Crimson I've heard. And it sounds good to me but curious to know what you think is a more definitive album from that time.

I could look at All Music I suppose.

I'm certain that he means Larks' Tongues in Aspic => Starless & Bible Black => Red.

I guess there's an argument that Starless having more tracks makes it seem "less focused" to somebody who thinks the other two have tighter track sequences?

I'd say they're all equally essential.

I just saw them at the Warfield back in October, and they played a load of new arrangements from that very classic 3-album run.  The lineup was great: Fripp, Mel Collins (who played on Islands and Lizard and guested on Red), Tony Levin, Jakko Jakszyk, Gavin Harrison, Pat Mastelotto and Bill Reiflin (of Pigface/ Ministry/Revolting Cocks fame).  It was an amazing concert with a lot of songs most of us in the audience figured we'd never see performed live.

Finally saw these guys (Yob) on Saturday night opening for Enslaved. Ever since, I've had "Marrow" on repeat. Absolutely stunning. It's like the "Purple Rain" of elegiac doom metal.

That was my #2 album of last year. Totally incredible from start to finish. "Marrow" is as gorgeous a song I've heard in years.

I put that album on and just stare at the cover art for an hour.

Fuck. Marrow is incredible and as good of a soundtrack for being drunk, alone, in a Hilton Garden Inn in Salt Lake City as I could possible imagine. Downloading the rest of the album now.

Totally forgot about Sleeparchive until I saw that he did an RA mix recently. Now Playing A Man Dies In The Street which is excellent minimal in 2nd-wave Detroit mode. If you like Jeff Mills, Underground Resistance, or Drexiya I imagine you'll dig.

I listened to the Sandwell District RA mix a couple times this week and it's one of the best mixes I've heard in a long time. Not on RA's site anymore but it's easy to find on Soulseek. Playing the Sleeparchive mix now and it's pretty good as well.

This is one of my favorite things.

    Now Playing - Page 12 Torche-restarter

This new Torche is excellent, definitely their strongest effort to date.  Meanderthal sounded like cut grade Foo Fighters trying to do doom metal; this is way more fun, super hooky Queens of the Stone Age/Kyuss/ Helmet/ Monster Magnet/Hawkwind/Prong/Killing Joke territory.

A lot of this was already available on a CD called Listen to the Voices, but that also had a lot of earlier Sly productions that don't fit as well with this stuff.

If you like There's A Riot Goin' On at all and haven't heard this material then you are in for a real treat! mmmmmmm
