Just sold my old dicey reissue copy of that. Saw it up on the wall of the record store several days later. Hopefully this hot bargain will bring some gullible vinyl fetishist some semblance of joy.

How much did you get for it and for how much are they selling it?

I sold it in a batch of three records...or four since one was a double.  Got 15 dollars for them all.  Four Men With Beards No Other, an '80s Blue Note pressing of Dexter Gordon's One Flight Up, The Essential John Fahey (old Requia/The Yellow Princess twofer)...they all sound pretty bad, IMO.  Classic recordings that the store can easily sell but not pressings that real collectors care about.

My No Other is selling for 13 bucks "near mint," as opposed to the recent Music On Vinyl pressing which costs 34 bucks and probably is a more enjoyable listening experience but who knows. Basically I received a third of what I originally paid for No Other and probably should have just sold it on Discogs.

Also recently unloaded some other dicey reissues (Screamers demos, fancy Alex Chilton Like Flies on Sherbert/Live In London twofer that was likely sourced from CDs, first Suicide album with bonus track in the middle of the running order), as well as a lot of great (mostly funk and soul) albums that deserve to be heard on less damaged vinyl.  Got like 32 bucks for that particular stack that was maybe about two inches high?  I don't know how many there were.

I like your integrity there, paves. If I'm going to own a slab of vinyl, I'd like for it to sound better than what I can get on Spotify. No Other has been such a treat lately for me. I'd listened to it at some point c. 2007-2010 and "liked" it, but never connected. Just a perfect set of tunes there that speaks to me in a real loud whisper the last couple months.

Shit, yeah.  It was fine.  For such a great live act, though, they don't (to my ears) have any truly great, official live albums.  And I'm not about to spend the next ten years listening to Dick's Far-Too-Many Picks.  Still, great band!

I am listening to Fillmore West 1969 which I am enjoying more than the Europe '72 album. That Love Light song went on about 11 minutes more than it needed but this middle section of Dark Star is kind of fascinating.

That's a solid record, in my opinion. And I think you're pretty otm. For about two weeks, last spring, I listened to Dead albums (quite a bit of live shit, including what I thought were some insufferably shitty records from, if memory serves, the late '70s) while making a long commute to and from work. It was a mostly good time, and it simultaneously reinforced my criticisms of the band and increased my appreciation of it.

I should note that it was the out-of-print "Elite Edition," featuring two extra full discs of rehearsals with some white, non-Elvin Jones drummer.

Then disc one is the entire session that the final album was taken from, featuring Elvin Jones, so naturally that one got the most repeat play.

Was getting psyched up for a performance he gave last Friday, accompanied by just a piano player...which was really great. Glad I made it out since nearly all of "those guys" are dead or dying.
