When do dads listen to tunes?

Just curious. LoPP dads--when, how, and where do you do most of your listening? Is it ever tough to find the time or privacy (if necessary) to spin what you need to hear?

Same question re: deep listening, too.

I have a very loud co worker the next office over. I'm wearing headphones almost all the time at work, just to be able to concentrate, unless I'm on the phone or in a meeting. Lawn mowing is prime Deep Listening time.

Sometimes I listen with the kids. The MLP Movie and Moana soundtracks get the most play, but Miniboss and I were listening to the Penguin Cafe Orchestra a few days ago and it got her seal of approval.

I've never listened to the Penguin Cafe Orchestra. One of my thousands of blind spots. Where should I start/where did she start?

I only listen to music on headphones. Mostly on train commute, at my desk or when working out.

I don't know. Just started ourselves. We became with the song that Spacehog sampled.

Forgot to mention that the best time for deep listening is when the kids go to bed, and I "sleep" on their floor, laying down in a dark room with my headphones on.

I guess "Preludes, Airs & Yodels" is a good place to start.

when i'm driving around gettin it, mostly. i have a long-ish driving commute 3 days a week, so if there's no podcast jamming my ears i just put the library on shuffle. it's been so long since i've sought out new music, i'm pretty out of the loop on whats new in the world these days.
sometimes i play spotify on headphones in the office, but i have too many calls or meetings and usually forget about it for days at a time.

i play the little man music but he only pays attention if i finger drum, clap or snap along. he likes watching records spin, but tries to grab them through the cover.

She listens to plenty of my music so it’s good. Heavier rock stuff I listen to at work

Most days the nature of my work lets me get some listening time in on the job.
I've almost always got music playing at home. When Lil-jenz is doing her homework I steer towards jazz standards. Making dinner, and eating dinner, it's what I want feel like playing.
The only time I listen to heavy stuff (Metallica, Ministry..), is in the car by myself.

Never mind this, when am I ever going to read a book again?

And not ones about chickens that fly to the moon in a rocket

To be frank I could stand to read more books about chickens flying to the moon on rockets.

Yes. The train is about the only time I have for deep listening these days. I've been cutting way back on podcasts to increase the amount of music time I have.

Car or train. Though I haven't been kept up with current music in a very long time. When I do have the opportunity to listen to music uninterrupted it tends to be things I already like or a relatively small selection of things I stumble upon in roundabout ways way after relevance.

I finally switched from torrenting to streaming and wish I had made the switch earlier. There are 100's of songs Spotify doesn't have, but being able to find random drone playlists have been awesome.

people that like 100s/Kossiko is so funny to me.

he's cool, but he's so Berkeley and local that it's hard to see him as an "artist". he dated my high school friend and now she hates him for some reason. his producer was in my sister's class and was a waiter at Chez Panisse.

love to see the locals get put on, but i'm super unfamiliar with his music.

Love turning up the volume when Radiohead comes on in the car to hear the kids moan about how it’s the most depressing music they’ve ever heard.

I got the same sort of thing going with my 5yo. When I put on my music she mostly is fine with it, but also tends to let out a big sigh and yell/ask, "Why is this music so SAAAADDD?!?"

My 3yo screams at the top of her lungs for "ELSA SONGS! ELSA SOOOOONNNNGGGGSS!!!" until I put on the Frozen soundtracks whenever we're in the car together. I try to not be in the car with her too frequently.

Luckily (or not) I drive all over the place for my job. So I listen to music in the van. Mostly playlists during the day, I’ll pick a genre and for better or worse stick with it all day. For my drive home I like to put on some ambient to help the day wash off of my shoulders.

When my son is in the car he typically is so buried in his phone that he doesn’t really comment on the music.
