My buddy put this on last night and it was quite good:

yes, been a huge fan of his for a while now. pray for haiti isn't his best work (it's really close), but it's definitely his most accessible. the production and sequencing on that record is incredible and i loved that even westside reined himself in a little. definitely one of my favorites of the year, for sure.

if you want to go elsewhere in his discography, i'd recommend mach's hard lemonade, tuez-les tous w/ dj muggs, and HBO next.

Thanks for that, JJ! I am listening to Supreme Blientele right now and loving it. Yesterday I listened to Pray for Paris with the windows rolled down while just coasting around and enjoying the really beautiful weather. Incredibly talents rappers but also just a real fucking vibe.

Griselda has been the best thing going in rap for about 5 years now.

My favorite Conway tapes are Reject 2 and Blakk Tape (songs: "Rex Ryan", "Puzo", "Biscotti Biscuit").

Westside has way too many tapes that are all over the place. Dash's recs are strong there. For some reason I listened to the song "Ishkabibble's" a lot last year.

I forget which Benny tapes I like the best, but this song is super:

i wouldn't sleep on armani caesar's the liz tape either. some really good jams on there

i'm interested to see where griselda goes from here. i'd love another boldy james album with the super grimy production, i'd love another armani caesar tape. i'm really not that interested in benny's turn towards early 00's flashiness nor am i super into conway's embrace of trap. the song "scatter brain" from his latest project, la maquina, features JID and ludacris and it's fucking awesome, however.

both of their last few projects have been bad. they're both trying to find a mainstream angle and it's lame. Westside is still doing bullshit because he barely even wants to be a rapper. that's the coolest thing to me, even though i typically found Conway tapes to be the most consistent. still, the last Conway/Alchemist project wasn't even very good.

they should just drop Benny and swap in Freddie Gibbs imo, lol.

they need someone like gibbs way more than gibbs needs something like griselda

Agreed. No reason for Gibbs to tie himself to one wave, but "$500 Ounces" helped show how much Conway and Benny have strayed from the Griselda way:


Roc and Freddie Gibbs sound more at home with Westside than the other Griselda dudes.

On a side note, the last few Roc Marciano projects have been awesome.

I have not. I don't tend to dig that deep. This Roc track has a sick beat too. Lots of names I recognize on here. My buddy tends to put on a lot of Your Old Droog (who I think sounds exactly like Nas).

The Medicine Drawer-Correspondence-A Cure for the Common run on this album is phenomenal. The way the productions run together is awesome.

This is the best style of rap music. I am always a West Coast partisan, but NY samples-and-spittin rap is unrivaled. That's why Griselda has been the best. Now that Conway/Benny want to get famous they are rapping over trash beats. Just facts!
